From Library Journal
People want and need information on drugs--particularly on the psychoactive ones. While not as comprehensive nor as informative as James W. Long's Essential Guide to Prescription Drugs 1991 (HarperCollins, 1990), this title by a clinical psychologist and physician profiles over 70 antidepressants, antipsychotics, sedatives, psychostimulants, antianxiety agents, and mood stabilizers. It also briefly discusses the treatment of depression, insomnia, phobias, anxiety, panic reactions, and compulsive disorders, although it provides little more detailed information than that found in most consumer medical guides. While some of the text is repetitive, the book takes a reassuring and nonjudgmental tone in examining substance abuse and dependence issues. An optional purchase for those libraries that need an additional title on this subject.
