Book Description

1412945399 978-1412945394 June 15, 2007 1 Concise
The past two decades have been marked by a period of substantial and often fundamental change in public administration. Critically reflecting on the utility of scholarly theory and the extent to which government practices inform the development of this theory, the Handbook of Public Administration was a landmark publication which served as an essential guide for both the practice of public administration today and its on-going development as an academic discipline.

The Concise Paperback Edition provides a selection of 30 of the original articles in an accessible paperback format and includes a new introduction by B. Guy Peters and Jon Pierre. It is an essential point of reference for all students of public administration.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard Reading, March 9, 2009

This review is from: Handbook of Public Administration: Concise Paperback Edition (Paperback)
The material covered is vastly descriptive. It can make for difficult reading. Also, the authors approach Public Administration from a global perspective, rather than a U.S. perspective.

This review is from: Handbook of Public Administration: Concise Paperback Edition (Paperback)
Peters is not only an excellent researcher but also the chronicler of the modern public administration. As always, in this Handbook of Public Administration Peters, here with Jon Pierre, presents interesting and timely subjects, such as: policy implementation, politicization of the civil service,multi-level governance and individual ethics-administrative responsibility, among others. The authors manage to bring together a group of experts to write about all the major subjects that influence the quality of todays' public administration. This book is a "must read" for scholars and graduate students who are in search for research topics in contemporary public administration.
