This is a great handbook for use while birding in the UK and Ireland. Many of the birds found in this book can be seen in Ireland. Not as detailed as some of the field guides I use in the US (Sibley's Guide to Birds for example) but is excellent as a handbook for quick ID while traveling in Scotland. Each bird includes male/female and summer/winter photos if appropriate. Each bird has a written identification, habits, voice, etc. sections that are well written and specific.
