For anybody going into the teaching profession!,
This review is from: A Handbook for Teachers of African American Children (Paperback)
Principal Kafele practices what he preaches. I know this because I met him two weeks ago at Essex County Vocational and Technical High School in Newark, New Jersey. Mr. Kafele does not consider his position as a job but a vocation or mission to which he treasures and pushes his students to achieve beyond their expectations. He is an active high school principal who spends his days in the school, observing teachers without notice, talking with parents and students regularly, not hiding behind closed doors like some principals working on reports for the superintendent. Principal Kafele practices what he preaches. He spends his Saturday mornings not at a golf course but in the school administering school detention for students who don't do their homework or are late to school twice per week. Principal Kafele is a rising star in the education field. Somebody that those of us who will teach African American children in our public school. As he says, He's on fire. When he is not at school, he gives motivational speeches, is a dedicated father and husband.
