Book Description

May 18, 2009
“This is a long-overdue, practical, one-of-a-kind resource on a critical topic of which every Christian counselor needs to be aware. Rather than an impractical one-size-fits-all approach, this unique book provides a breadth and depth of proven pathways to healing and hope from eight clinical professionals. Reading this book will enhance your clinical understanding and give you the resources to increase your effectiveness in serving this unique population. This book is a clinical gold mine that needs to be in every therapist’s library.” --Gary J. Oliver, Ph.D., Executive Director, Center for Relationship Enrichment; Professor of Psychology and Practical Theology, John Brown University “Finally, a strong clinical ally has been found for the thousands of women and men whose sexual attractions are at odds with their worldview. In twenty plus years of working with such people, I've never seen a resource as comprehensive, user-friendly, clinically viable and realistic as this. Professionals, lay counselors and pastors need look no further than this book for state of the art treatment approaches, assessment skills and guidance. Thank God for this much needed contribution.” --Joe Dallas, Author of Desires in Conflict and co-author of The Complete Christian Guide to Understanding Homosexuality “This book is a ‘must read’ for anyone wanting to consider this issue in a careful and reasoned manner.” --Walter Schumm, Ph.D., Professor of Family Studies, Kansas State University; Author of over 200 scholarly publications. “The Handbook of Therapy for Unwanted Homosexual Attractions is an important tool for any counselor, pastor or individual helping those dealing with the uniquely challenging subject of same-sex attraction. As someone who personally struggled with and overcame homosexuality, I am confident that this resource will help others live a life that reflects their deepest beliefs.” --Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International, www.exodusinternational.org

1.0 out of 5 stars CNN today exposed this book as a fraud... what a beautiful thing, June 7, 2011
This review is from: Handbook of Therapy for Unwanted Homosexual Attractions (Paperback)
Today CNN exposed that this book was a fraud as well as Reker (who co authored the book- interestingly not listed with the 2 "editors" but look -he's right on the cover of the book.

Here is a quote ""Handbook of Therapy for Unwanted Homosexual Attractions," cites Kraig's case as a success. That was six years after Kirk Murphy took his own life." (end of quote)

Sadly one of the studies is dead wrong as the boy who killed himself. AND Reker was caught (do a search CNN and elsewhere) as seeing and hiring a male prostitute for favors so I'd hardly say he's against homosexuality. I do wish everyone the best with their mission but this is hogwash and so glad this book was exposed for what it is... a FRAUD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book if you want your child to commit suicide, June 9, 2011
This review is from: Handbook of Therapy for Unwanted Homosexual Attractions (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for those who wish to permanently damage their children or themselves using failed psycho-babble therapies. True happiness (for your child or for yourself) will only come with the acceptance of who your child really is (or who you are). It has been shown again and again that you cannot change sexual orientation with either psychotherapy (as suggested in this book) or religious "therapy". All longterm studies have shown that sexual orientation is immutable. People may learn to hide their true selves and pretend to be what they are not, but that doesn't make them heterosexual. How many Ex "Ex-gays" does it take to prove this? The sooner you realize that, the sooner you and/or your child can get on with living a good, healthy, truly happy life. Using the therapies suggested in this book will only ensure a life filled with self-hate and suicidal tendencies. I would have given it zero stars if at all possible. A much better book on here is: Gay Affirmative Therapy for the Straight Clinician: The Essential Guide.

1.0 out of 5 stars The "science" in this book has been exposed as a fraud., June 10, 2011
This review is from: Handbook of Therapy for Unwanted Homosexual Attractions (Paperback)
George Rekers' experiments in the 70s have been exposed to be psychologically damaging. "Kraig," the boy referenced in this book, eventually committed suicide because of the abuse suffered at the hands of those like the quacks who wrote this book. George Rekers was last year exposed as someone who hired a male escort when traveling.

This book is a fraud and eminently dangerous to the health of children. God help those kids and parents who believe the bile spewed in this tome.
