When I cycled across North America on my bicycle in 98, I pick up some bicycle touring handbooks for preparation. And then I found this "The handbook for touring bicyclist" is so helpful. There are a lot of similar books, but this book is absolutely the best useful book I've read. Well, I, of cause, have read other books like "The bicycle touring manual", "The essential touring cyclist", and "Bicycle touring international". But actually all those books seems stereotyped and oldfashioned. But this book is unlike them. Funny, elaborate, readable and portable ! So when it comes to a bicycle touring, you can't miss this great book. Even you are a well experienced cyclist, you'll find something missing in your touring. The auther Foresty Wooldrige have neat sence of humor. I often can't help laughing at when I read. Again, don't miss this wonderful book if you are a cyclists who want tips. All you need is here !

I found this guide really helpful for a first outing. He omits a lot of specialty information that you'd be able to easily grab from other sources (outdoor survival, etc). This allows him to focus on important things like how to pack your panniers, what to take with, how to be prepared for rough spots, a thorough cooking guide, and how to make it fun and romantic for touring with someone you care about (and keeping them from wanting to wring your neck).

My first adventure using his guide was a total success and now I feel prepared to make informed purchases for my next outing which couldn't be too soon.
