Book Description

April 1987
This book was the first English language translation of a complete Chinese clinical manual on TCM gynecology and obstetrics. It was the textbook for the OB-GYN class at the Zhejiang College of Chinese Medicine in Hangzhou, PRChina. It covers the disease causes and mechanisms and the pattern discrimination treatment for 35 commonly encountered complaints. The book is divided into five sections: 1) menstrual diseases, 2) abnormal vaginal discharge diseases, 3) gestational & birthing diseases, 4) postpartum diseases, and 5) miscellaneous diseases. Because Chinese gynecology in China means treatment via the internal administration of Chinese herbs, all the treatments in this book are herbal ones. If one wants to buy a single book covering all of Chinese gynecology in an introductory, survey fashion, this is the book to buy.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This book is the perennial workhorse of TCM gynecology in English. Students love it because it is so reasonably priced. We have constantly improved the translation of this text, the identification of formulas and medicinals, and the standardization of its translational terminology. Plus we have added a detailed index to make its clinical use even easier for busy practitioners. Although it was the first Chinese gynecology texts translated into English, we feel it is still the best such translation on the market today.

About the Author

When this book was first published in China in 1984, it was still not politically correct to identify individual author's names as opposed to their work units or collectives. However, since Blue Poppy Press's first publication of this book, we have learned that it is the work of Profs. Song Guang-ji and Yu Xiao-zhen, gynecology teachers at the Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This review is from: A Handbook of Traditional Chinese Gynecology (Paperback)
Not so much for the average reader, but nonetheless rather informative. I did learn a few things here and there. Would have preferred if the book had more information on diet during pregnancy (Afterall, that was what I was looking for when I bought the book).
