As a novice in herbal remedies, I found this book to be an excellent, quick resource. Jessie Hawkins does a wonderful job explaining everything from "What is Herbalism?" to "Herbal Safety." She discusses the use of herbs simple problems like insect bites and bruises to more advanced health matters such as bronchitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. The entire book is written for anyone to understand, whether the reader is familiar with herbal remedies, or just beginning to learn about them. Ms. Hawkins does a very good job explaining what the symptom is, prevention, treatments and pros and cons of the herbs used.

This is a book that belongs on the bookshelf of every home.

I am so glad that I purchased this book - I had been considering it for quite a while and decided to purchase it. It goes into detail about how medicine has changed from mothers taking charge to physicians and pharmacists taking charge of our health. It states that there isn't really any way for a MD to know in 10-15 minutes your whole history, and that we need to re-take charge/control over our and our families health. It talks about many different afflictions and how to treat them using natural herbal treatments. It also has a section in the back that talks about different herbs and how to use them. Love it! I look forward to continuing to try many of the vintage remedies.

I am so impressed with how Jesse Hawkins created a book that is highly informative, yet so approachable. I tend to feel intimidated when thinking about natural remedies, but while reading this book I felt that I could easily implement the ideas.

This is a book for every person, it is informative enough for those who have experiance, yet simple enough for those who are brand-new to the subject and do not know where to start.

As a doula and childbirth educator I now have a book to reccommend in good conscience to my clients. In my own home, I have been using the book already for common ailments that I normally tend to reach for drugstore products to treat. I am excited about the balanced approach as I personally feel comfortable with using pharmaceuticals in some cases, but feel concerned about the casual use of them.

Great book! It's helped me with treating my kids mild illnesses so I don't have to take them to the dr.for every cough and sniffle! It covers a wide range of issues that we all deal with at sometime or another. This is the book I've always wanted written- and finally someone wrote it!

This book is amazing! It is filled to the max with essential information for a variety of natural remedies.

I love how the book is divided up into different sections so it's very easy to find exactly what you are looking for with ease.

There is a section dedicated to common ailments. Each section for the ailments tells you about all the different natural remedies you can use, dosages and other important information.

The botonical section lists many of the commonly used botonicals (sage, garlic, licorice...) and their uses.

My favorite sections are the ones to make natural home products inluding house hold cleaners and a MINTY window cleaner. My other favorite is the bath and body section with great recipes to make such wonderful things as Vanilla body scub and bath salts.

If you are looking for free yourself and your home from toxins and over the counter medications then I would strong recommend purchasing this book. I was amazed by the wealth of information I found in it. This book is a MUST HAVE.

The Handbook of Vintage Remedies is a great resource for handling health issues naturally. The book alphabetically lists ailments; a description of them, prevention for them and herbs that can help cure/calm them. It is an easy resource to utilize for yourself or for a family. The herbs are described in a reference in the back of the book to explain what they are, when to use them and how much to use. There are other helpful hints in this book for things as skin care and natural cleaners. I am excited to own it and have already used some of the suggestions Jessie has presented in it.
