Book Description

November 5, 1993
Familiar favorites such as the overtures to Messiah, Acis and Galatea, Alexander’s Feast, Julius Caesar and the so-called Water Musick, plus fresh discoveries for keyboard players—all demonstrating Handel’s exciting theatrical sense, his technical virtuosity in composition and his dazzling mastery of musical forms. Reprinted from an extremely rare edition originally printed, probably in the 1750’s, by Handel’s London publisher, John Walsh. The edition preserves the original keyboard notation, amazingly precise in its elegant execution.

4.0 out of 5 stars baroque arrangements, January 29, 2000
This review is from: 60 Handel Overtures Arranged for Solo Keyboard (Paperback)
The book contains scores of 60 of Handel's better and less known overtures. It is a facsimile of an edition dating from the mid 1750's and has the appearance of hand copied scores. This takes a little getting used to at first especially the fugual episodes since the notation does not readily align. No matter, the music is really pukka and I have a great time playing them. Extremely good value for the quantity of music available to you

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Handel, July 5, 2006
This review is from: 60 Handel Overtures Arranged for Solo Keyboard (Paperback)
Has all your favorite Handel overtures, and a bunch that you've probably never heard of. As the previous reviewer mentioned, the print resembles an early manuscript, and sometimes is hard to line up one note with another, but eventually you get used to it. But the print is lovely as far as looks go. This would be a good book for anyone who likes Handel and wants to sharpen their skills in playing in the baroque manner.
