A great Second version of Il trionfo.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Handel: Il Trionfo del Tempo e della Verita (HWV 46b) (Audio CD)
I hesitated to buy this recording of Handel's First oratario. The reason, is because the conductor does not do a good job on picking good handel singers. This recording diminishes all the stuff I said about him. The two sopranos are really great, especially Claron Mcfadden. the two Sopranos have a very good lyric tone. the two altos, are Counter-tenors that are pretty new. The Orchestra playing is very crisp and clean. It is on Original Instruments. The chorus is very good, but there Italian is a little off. The music is , as usual, good and beautiful. Handel really shows his genius and his technicall difficulty in the organ concerti in the Interlude and the organ concerti before the las number. I wonder why Handel put instrumental music in this Oratario. The Oratario lasto 3hours falt, and the music is really great. I am very sorry to inform the reviewer before me, but his recording is from a second version in 1737 not 1707! Buy this recording the music is great and the recording is good to.

A true masterpiece....performed beautifully.,

All things considered, this recording stacks up rather well. Very well infact. It is uproariously grand, and in it's Italian flamboyancy, shows off Handel's brilliance marvellously. I am familiar with neither conductor nor choir, but what a sound they create!
I find the inclusion of various instrumental interludes fascinating. These pieces are gems, and far from being mere 'fillers', they create their own 'stage', projecting a solidness and sure-footedness that only Handel had. This really is remarkable music, performed beautifully. That being said, I recommend it whole-heartedly as a true masterpiece of both composition and performance.

Italian Oratorio in London,
By
This review is from: Handel: Il Trionfo del Tempo e della Verita (HWV 46b) (Audio CD)
I used to be somehow reluctant to buy early music by Handel, because ,it seemed to me, that the maturity of his art was found at a latter period of his life. However, I was gladly impressed to hear the music of this early oratorio, composed during his staying in Italy when he was in his 20's. This secular oratorio has charming melodies, which express the contrasting feelings expected in barroque music.I recognized melodies from Agrippina as well as from Clori Tirsi & Fileno, which were in fact some of my favorites from these particular Opera and cantata. As far as the singers these can boast being gifted with all the virtuasity required to sing Handel, and give the great value to this Oratorio.I highly recoment it to all Barroque, and particularly Handel lovers.
