If you like Handel's music and/or you LOVE thrilling, energetic, and beautiful music - then get this exact CD. I got it years and years ago and it got misplaced when I moved. I looked for it online for 10 years and didn't find it. I ordered it from a music store and they never got it, saying it was not produced anymore... Just recently I saw it here on Amazon and snatched it up.
I say to get this EXACT CD because it's the best one I've heard, although by now I've bought 3 others that I was hoping were as good, but weren't. This CD is entitled "Handel - Water Music, Music for the Royal Fireworks." It's performed by London Classical Players, directed by Roger Norrington. The manufacturer is Columbia House under license to Virgin Veritas.
Although I'm not checking my notes and may be in error on this, here's a little history on the Water Music...Handel composed it for some English king (many, many moons ago - check Wiki) for the King's big promotional sail up the Thames River. Evidently the King liked the music so much he had his onboard musicians play it over and over. I'm not sure he ever got off the boat like he'd planned. I forget the story for the Fireworks part, but I think it was equally amusing.
