About the Author

Caroline Arber began a career in photography after training as a painter. She photographs the things she enjoys--flowers, gardens, interiors, children, and food. Her work appears in many magazines including Homes & Gardens, Country Living and Red. For Ryland Peters & Small she has taken photographs for A Handful of Herbs and The Wedding Planner.

William Lingwood is one of Britain's best-known names in food photography. But he didn't start that way. As an oil-worker in the Middle East, he learned to cook from the books of Elizabeth David and Jane Grigson, and was inspired by the photography of Robert Fresom and Tessa Treagar. In 1990, he hung up his desert boots and picked up a camera, and his work now appears in magazines, books, and advertising campaigns. He photographed "Juices and Tonics" for Ryland Peters & Small.

Louise Pickford is a Sydney-based food writer. She contributes to several food magazines and is the author of a number of cookbooks, including "Al Fresco" and "Fast and Fresh" (both Ryland Peters & Small).

Barbara Segall is a horticulturist and writer whose work appears in "Country Living", "BBC Gardeners' World" and other magazines.

4.0 out of 5 stars Had to have one for myself, November 26, 2005

I bought this book as a gift, but had to buy two so I could keep one. It covers all the standard herbs in the standard way, but what stands out in this little book are the photos of some very creative uses for the herbs. The "cooking with herbs" section is also well done and I've actually used some of the recipes! The print is very small, but the typeface is clear and simple so that helps to keep it readable.

A great reference book on herbs, with beautiful photography, growing tips, and recipes. This was originally purchased for a gift. I loved it so much, I ordered another for myself.
