Great Push & Ride Toy!, November 29, 2007
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

This was a gift for my son's 1st birthday, and he took to it right away. He can even push our almost 5 year old daughter while she sits on it! Darling! It's also nice that the sounds can be turned off. It seems like a very sturdy toy. No complaints at all.

Questionable design, durability and safety, January 28, 2009

We own numerous Little Tikes toys, and they are quite durable overall. However, for the Haul and Ride Dozer, we wanted to document the following concern regarding its design, durability, and safety: After only a few months of carefully supervised and infrequent use, we watched the steering wheel separate completely from the body of the toy in the the hands of our 16 month old son. This resulted in the front wheel assembly becoming detached from the toy itself, dangling by some wires.
Upon further examination, it was noted that the two small screws holding the steering wheel to the front wheel assembly were apparently stripped (they could not be re-tightened), and that both of these screws had fallen out into a plastic housing, and a small plastic tab used to align the steering wheel and front wheel assembly had snapped off. This incident was reported to Little Tikes directly, and the representative seemed genuinely concerned and mentioned that one of their staff members would contact me. I also submitted a writeup for posting on the customer review section of Little Tikes website. At this time, my writeup has not posted on their website, but I did note that other reviewers experienced similar problems.
As a safety engineer, I am concerned with design and durability of the steering mechanism. This problem could have been exacerbated by poor manufacturing (note the two screws that were possibly stripped). In any case, the two screws connecting the steering wheel to the front wheel assembly worked themselves loose, and the end result was a bona fide safety concern - the steering wheel pulled free from the toy, causing the front wheel assembly to become unattached and resulting in exposed wires that could pose a strangulation hazard. We watched this scenario firsthand with our son in the living room.
For these reasons, I would not recommend this particular Little Tikes toy, and simply wanted to point this out to others for their consideration as appropriate. When it comes to the safety of a child, one data point was enough for me to want to post this concern.

Most used toy, but do not buy, May 17, 2009

Our son is 20 months old and this toy gets more use than any other toy. I gave it 4 out of 5 starts overall because the bucket on the front shouldn't be able to tilt up and down. I may just buy some glue to secure it upward. It points downward once he bumps into something and then he cannot move forward until we fix it for him. I hope the glue works!
ETA: My husband ended up removing the entire bucket/arm piece. As much as I love how much my son plays with this toy, I would never recommend that anyone buy this product because of the bucket alone.
