Breakout song,
By
This review is from: Handlebars (MP3 Download)
I recently moved out to denver where I first heard the flobots breakout single "handlebars." I was blown away and was excited to hear that they were being signed to universal records. Their brand of unsynthesized hip hop/rap is something thats missing in todays mainstream. Instead of shallow "Donk" or "Love in this club" like lyrics, with the flobots handlebars comes an almost poetic song about human achievements, of all kinds. The flobots brand of politically charged lyrics is not for everyone, but if your looking for a rap song that actually has live instruments, and lyrics that aren't just about luda's wealth or how many ho's soulja boy has supermaned lately, then I highly recomend this incredibly well written and catchy song.

WAAAY better than most of the mainstream rap out there. This song has a very strong beat, and lyrics are good. Totally recommend this song.

Blown away...,
This review is from: Handlebars (MP3 Download)
A local band covers this song, I really enjoy when they've played it live, but I couldn't follow the message of the song, just bits and pieces. I finally looked it up on youtube, and...well, understanding the entire song...it simply blew me away.
This song hits a chord deep within me. It illuminates something inside me, illuminates the world. It does what art is supposed to do, in every sense. It is the art of music in the highest ideal form. It's a song. Listen to it. If you like it, buy it to support the artist.

Heard this song on my Pandora station the other day and absolutely loved it. Haven't heard and rock/rap lately in general but I really enjoyed Handlebars. I might check out a few of their other songs now.

This is a great song. The rapper sounds a bit like Eminem, but the instrumentation is all real and cool. I highly recommend it.

Great song, video is better!,

This Denver band has gotten some national notice with this song, "Handlebars". They have a hip hop style combined with interesting lyrics and live jazz instruments (like the trumpet you hear on this track or the violin).
I know you can watch the video on a Clear Channel station's video jukebox. It is an incredible work that really adds to the depth of the lyrics to this song. The song starts out slower and build beautifully into an intense peak with sociopolical undertones that remind of Rage Against The Machine's more subtle songs. Then it goes out as quietly as it came in, leaving you with a feeling of intesity. The clip just doesn't do this justice.

Almost ruined by overproduction,

This is a really great song, but I think it was almost completely ruined by being overproduced. It's almost frustrating for me to listen to it now since I've heard the other version that is more raw and full of life. This one feels more artifical. Do a search on YouTube for the other version and then listen to the track on their MySpace page. I think you can really tell the difference.
