Handling Fear: Talks on Sprirituality and Modern Life,
By A Customer
This review is from: Handling Fear : Talks on Spirituality and Modern Life (Audio Cassette)
These audio tapes can bring about the healing of emotional fears in every aspect of life. Marianne touches on the ego and how it interferes with what our God center(universal unconsciousness) is trying to teach us through our trials of everyday existence. She teaches that by understanding the ego and how it is interrupting our growth, we can put it out of our path and concentrate on our spiritual growth and be thankful for the fears and what we percieve as major pains and problems in our lives and relationships, and grow from them. These audio tapes have been an important healing in my life over the past year and I thank Marianne Williamson for creating these.

Marianne doing self therapy?,

This review is from: Handling Fear : Talks on Spirituality and Modern Life (Audio Cassette)
I have listened to and own several of Marianne Williamson's tapes. This set of four is definitly not her best. On this set she tackles several issues/philosophies but clarifies few. Many of her tapes in the past have been extremely enlightening and helpful and I have enjoyed and shared them with others, but I just can not recommend this set. I know that negative reviews are frowned on by the number of people who say "not helpful" but I hope anyone interested in this set will at least know that they have been warned. After listening to some of the sides on this set I could not honestly tell you what point she was trying to make. As is often done by speakers, she would use examples from her life to illustrate a point, but it became so much that one almost felt she was trying to do self therapy in front of a group. It many places it truly did not fit and often strayed from whatever the point I think was supposed to be. It became distracting and annoying at many instances within the lectures. After hearing some of the tapes I would have to ask myself "What did she just try to say?" (I have a masters degree in psychology so should at least be able to follow somewhat where she is going). To be honest, at times it felt like these were just thrown together to get another tape on the market. After one gets past the first side of tape one, there is very little substance, very little depth, very little of anything that would add to what she has eloquently developed in previous tape series. This truly is a disappointment. She has much better work on the market. I would bet the entire four tape series could be condensed to fifteen minutes without losing any of the pertinate content.

Taking a hard look at self,

Opening up playing "big" in the world instead of playing "small" and understanding it is our God given right to do so can push a person out of their comfort zone. But the end results can be rewarding. Marianne's no nonsense approach mixed with humor makes a wonderful teaching technique. Well worth the time to listen and it's easy to pop one in while driving long distances.
