Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Luscious colors and bold geometric shapes are the hallmarks of designer Alison Jenkins's elegant candles, and she shares her expertise in creating them in this book. Magnificent photographs and excellent instructions explore molded, beeswax, gel, ice, embossed, frosted, embedded, and scented varieties, including stately bamboo-shaped tapers, an imposing Mark Rothko-inspired rectangle, soothing Zen stones, and a flashy number sporting iridescent glass nuggets. No one method receives highly in-depth coverage, but each is treated skillfully enough to give even novices a good grounding in the technique. A thorough introductory section details tools, materials, basic techniques, mold making, and special effects. Safety precautions, a troubleshooting guide, and a list of suppliers round out this terrific presentation. --Amy Handy

Not only is this book beautifully photographed, but it is full of helpful, detailed information. Some of the candle books I have contain outdate and old-fashioned looking projects, but this book has projects full of contemporary candles and great design ideas.

3.0 out of 5 stars good basic book, January 16, 2012

Nice projects, up to date, but simple. Good basic book--I knew nothing about candle making so it was helpful. I wished there was more "why" in addition to the "how to". I did find when I was reading the what-to-do-when-it-goes-wrong section in the back that some of my "why" questions were answered.
I bought this used for about $5 and it was worth it--but not the list price over $20.
The book was written in about 2003 so it does not cover soy waxes and the new products on the market.
