This is an excellent resource for anyone wanting an introduction or to learn more about the art of paper collage. Ackerman, an artist for more than 20 years, begins with the basics: the different types of paper, tools, and adhesives that are needed; materials that embellish paper; and how to decorate plain paper for use in a collage. The author also explains the basic techniques of making collages and gives many hints for materials that are more difficult to work with and common problems found in paper collage. More than 15 projects are offered, and photographs of Ackerman's many collages will inspire ideas. The projects are divided between landscapes and abstract images that use many different types of paper, materials, and colors. An artist for more than 20 years, Dawn Ackerman's work is held in corporate and private collections and has been shown in galleries across the United States. Her collages have also been featured on television and in print. "Collage is exciting to me," writes Dawn, "because it allows me to create an image that I find as interesting up close as from a distance."

I found this book inspirational (her pictured collages are beautiful) and helpful, even for a rank beginner like me. Her instructions are clear and step-by-step, and it seems like a process simple enough to do, although time-consuming enough that I'll have to block out an afternoon to get started. She gives lots of ideas for embellishments for your collage, and I like it that most of them are easily available. I gave it five stars because I don't find any glaring omissions or problems.If you're looking for a craft that emphasizes color and texture, and simple enjoyment, this sure looks to be one to try.

I really like this book and the way the author explains every step in the process of creating paper collage. There are lots of pictures of her works which are beautiful. There are landscapes and abstracts with clear instructions for each - many suggestions and ideas and lists of tools and supplies needed for each project. She also tells you some of the particular types of paper she especially likes for her works. This book is a great investment for anyone interested in making paper collage.
