5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute MUST for Crafters
Barbara hasn't forgotten a thing in this wonderful book. From start to finish, each page is filled with a surplus of information. From setting goals to setting prices; marketing to networking, Barbara discusses it all. Any crafter who is interested in selling their work should buy this book. No, borrowing from the library simply will not do. You'll want this book...

2.0 out of 5 stars Some useful info, but so annoying to read
I bought this book based on all the wonderful glowing reviews, but I have to be honest. This book is really annoying to read. While Barbara tries to include many types of crafts when giving examples, it's easy to see that her focus is the country/traditional theme (think teddy bears, calico, painted wood, corn husk dolls, etc.).

Also, her references to...

I'm only half way through the book and already she's saved me the cost of the book. Her advice is sound and should help anyone who's dabbled in crafting for a while and never quite knew how to get serious about selling. This is an easy-to-understand wealth of information, and a perfect start on my journey to success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wealth of New Information in 2002 Edition, December 17, 2002
This review is from: Handmade for Profit!: Hundreds of Secrets to Success in Selling Arts & Crafts (Hardcover)
If you're serious about wanting to turn your crafts into a successful business, you must have this completely new rewritten edition. Barbara has written a "Bible for the entrepreneur!" The book is a bargain that will save you time and money as it leads you through setting goals, developing and pricing your product, into new opportunities and new technologies for marketing your talents. As an author, publisher, and owner of a crafts business, I have found more helpful advice in this new book for all three of my endeavors than in any other resource on my bookself. You won't be sorry you bought "Handmade for Profit".

Also, her references to religion and God seem out of place to me. Isn't this supposed to be a business book? Not all crafters are religious!

I could deal with those things, other than for the fact that it seems like every other page has some sort of grammatical error or spelling mistake. Did she not have an editor? I looked for an editor's name in the front pages, but didn't see one... case in point: If you plan to publish a book, GET AN EDITOR. Or risk looking very unprofessional.

There is some good information in this book, but I know I'll be hoping to re-sell my copy.

This review is from: Handmade for Profit!: Hundreds of Secrets to Success in Selling Arts & Crafts (Hardcover)
Barbara's new book is awesome! Lots of new information and quotes from "real" folks. Reading the first edition encouraged me to change direction in my business and has introduced my handmade glass beads to an entire new buying public on the internet!
Lots of side bar information to explain concepts and thoughts in detail, and lots of humor. It's a book that will go everywhere with you... to be browsed, read and re-read as you grow your home-based business! Every tool you ever need is in this new, 2002 edition!

4.0 out of 5 stars A positive voice, August 9, 2007
This book has been a wealth of knowledge for me. I have just started selling my craft and had very little experience with a business of my own. While some of the information is less technical or web savvy the general ideas and business structure information is well presented in a human and positive way.
This book is easy to read cover to cover (minus a few typos) or to jump into a specific section. Barbara Brabec seems to have done some really useful research with this book.

This book is wonderful!!! I don't even usually read but I've gotten halfway through in about 2 weeks. It's so great! I thought I couldn't really learn anything, but I was amazed at the helpful info in here. Now I am totally in love the Barbara Brabec!! I'm about to order 2 more books now! and I already got Creative Cash too. She is wonderful! The book is so well written and informative!! More then worth the money it cost. It should be on artist/crafters bookself.

I totally recommend this book for anyone thinking, wishing or starting up selling crafts. I bought 4 books in all and the only ones I'm reading are the two books I bought by Barbara Brabec!
