Product Description

Color: Black

This kit includes soft, pliable air-drying clay. The non-toxic clay is safe and easy to use to capture those precious little hands and feet. After you make the impressions, the clay dries into a stone-like material in a couple of days. Features: No mixing of materials and no baking. Just knead, flatten and create the impression! Kit includes: Two bags of air-drying clay, Black smooth finish wood desktop frame that holds one 5" x 7" picture, Writing tool, Wooden rolling pin & Easy-to-follow instructions. Frame dimensions are 17 " long x 8 " high; acrylic cover over center photo opening only. The clay display areas are 4.5 x 6.5 inches. [[Clay Tips: To ensure a smooth dried finish, be sure the clay is rolled out evenly (not thinner on the edges, etc) and is as smooth on the surface as possible before making the print. Then, cover the clay with a slightly damp light-weight cloth for 24 hours, or until the clay surface becomes leathery hard. Also, the clay is held into the frame by being pressed into the edges of the wooden openings.]]

I used these sets to make impressions of my one-month old baby's hands and feet. We added a nice picture in the middle, and it made a nice keepsake for our families. I would totally do it again at another milestone.

That said, it took five hours and four people to make these. I'm not even kidding.

Hilarious story aside, here are some great tips for making it work well with a small infant:
- Roll the clay into the frame about an hour before you plan to press into it. You can still get one re-do out of it.
- Have at leat one other person with you so one person can focus on baby, and one can hold the frame at whatever odd angle you need.
- If you are making a lot, consider an extra or practice set.
- Do all the foot impressions first. Baby feet are easier to press into the clay, and you can get a good sense of how hard to push and what the imprints will look like.
- It's hard to get baby's hands flat, and keep her from grabbing a handful of clay instead of making an impression. After a few failed attempts and some replacement clay, we finally got great results with one-hour hardened clay and making the impressions while she was well-distracted with a bottle.
- make sure you have the frame the right direction when you make imprints - there is no way to "flip" the frame upside down on one end and not the other.
- There are little screws and hinges between the frames. There is nothing stopping you from taking them apart to put together your best sets. Multiple sets are really handy for this.
- I also wrote baby's name and birthday in the clay. That worked best once it was dry for maybe 90 minutes. The included stick was ok, dipped in water between letters.

Overall it worked out but I am disappointed and would not recommend it. It is a craft item so there is a bit of skill/practice that benefits the user of the product. However the tools they give you and the quality of the material is poor. The roller for the clay is too short. 3/4" longer and it would be much easier to roll out the clay without creases. Second the plexiglass covering the photo area is very cheap and thin. Mine was scratched and starred. Not so bad that it was unusable but much worse than I would expect for brand new. Also, while it advertises 5x7 photos, it's actually slightly smaller. I had to trim photos down to fit in the picture area.

The finished product is very cute. The clay dried pretty fast while we were trying to put our babies footprints in - we had messed up the first time and wanted to roll the clay out again and try again. It didn't roll as smoothly as the first time but it still came out cute. I would definetly purchase this product again.

Very nice product, I like the fact that you can undo and start over if you don't like what you get! I got nice footprints of my baby and it seems to last.

The product is a great keepsake, or gift for grandparents. I recently had a baby and wanted to give her grandparents a nice keepsake. She was almost 6 weeks old when we did the molds. I was a bit difficult to get a deep enough impression to notice from a distance. Close up the prints looked great, but then looking from a distance, the prints were not as visible. We had to redo the impressions a few times (because baby didn't like being forced to keep her hand opened or didn't like the pressure we put on her foot). It was easy to redo the impressions...just re-mold the clay.

Love this frame. Easy and really fun to do. All the neccesary items are included. Not well packed. Pretty big box with only one bubble pak. No damage though. Clay amount was perfect, not to much and not to little.

This is perfect to display your child's hand & foot print. And if you need to do it a few times, the dough is still good. I puchased a similar one, and paid $50 + tax. So this one is totally worth the price!!!
