5.0 out of 5 stars Fun alive and really applicable
If you have a child between 6-12, this is THE Bible to get. The new living translation really brings the Bible to life and is written simply. Learning about Jesus shouldn't be complicated but simple to understand! It also shows the kids how to apply the Bible in their lives. I love the KJV but have found it a hard read at times, not so with this. It also has a daily...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many distractions
The NLT is a good Bible translation for this age group, but the pictures, text boxes and activity pages distract from the Scripture. It's not bad for a beginner, if there's some question about wanting to read the Bible, but for someone who actually does want to read it, the other stuff gets in the way. Even our 10-year-old now prefers to use other Bibles, as he has...

It also has a daily reading list for kids along with a question to answer to get them thinking. In addition, it has a family devotion section which is great for the family to get involved! There are fun facts, a time line, and object lessons to help them relate that hey can do easily at home. It's packed with fun so that kids can learn in a fun involved way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands On gets a big Thumbs Up, August 25, 2005

I have been working with kids and their families for over ten years, and I think this is the best Bible for kids I have ever come across. The NLT is an easy read that makes sense to kids and yet maintains the integrity of being a translation and not a paraphrase. The Bible has a fun look and feel for kids and plenty of age appropriate helps. What puts this Bible over the top though, is the Hands On suggestions that serve as object lessons for key scriptures. If you are a parent looking for creative ideas to teach your kid God's word then this Bible is for you. Check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource!, August 19, 2005
This review is from: Hands-On Bible NLT (Paperback)
We use this Bible in our after school clubs. It really attracts children and entices them to read the Bible! I love the features it has: highlighting important verses (common memory verses); activities throughout; occational "Key Verse" hightlights that give deeper insight to a verse; "Fun Facts" interspersed in the text. I am also impressed with the appendices: LOTS of helpful information about the Bible for those who are new to reading it (like our club kids!); a personal Bible reading plan for kids; family devotions (I use some of these ideas in my teaching!); a dictionary/concordance; and maps! WOW! This Bible is packed! And NLT is a great translation for kids who are not familiar with "Christianese." I HIGHLY recommend this Bible! (My own kids are now asking for one...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible resource for families, October 27, 2004
This review is from: Hands-On Bible NLT (Paperback)
As a pastor of family ministries I struggle with providing resources that allow parents to engage their children in spiritual training in a fun and relevant way. This Bible, while written for children, can be used as a resource for the entire family for family devotionals or fun facts. The Bible has a lot of devotionals in the back that are great for getting the family talking and getting the children reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent interpretation of the Word of God, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Hands-On Bible NLT (Hardcover)
Originally, this book was a gift for my grandson by one of his elementary school teachers--ordered on Amazon.com. I started reading the book and could not put it down. Because we live in separate housing, I realized that I wanted this book for my own. Even if you have spiritual interpretation of the scriptures, this book explains the scriptures in layman's terms for today. Try The Hands On Bible for yourself and you will realize the truth that is magnificently displayed. You, as well as, your children will have a clear understanding of so many things that we have been so ignorant of.

This bible is great for kids ages 7 and up. The activities it includes are easy, and help to commit the story to memory. The bible itself is easy to read and understand. I highly recommend this bible for any one interested in teaching or learning from the bible.

The Hands-On Bible is perfect for teaching my 5th/6th graders. I have several "unchurched" kids that are not intimidated by the Bibles and truly enjoy opening God's Word and learning from it. Thank you Group!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Good, But Room For Improvement, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Hands-On Bible NLT (Paperback)
My 8.5 year old grandson took twenty minutes to review four children's Bibles. He finally chose this one as the best for reasons similar to those mentioned in other reviews, but suggested two improvements.

First, improve the print. It is harder to read than other children's Bibles that are printed in blue. One he really found easy to read had blue print and green section titles. Two, make the colored pages with special activities easier to find. The more high color pages he found in a Bible the more it moved up on his list. The Bibles he initially chose used a heavier paper.

Only after I pointed out the activity pages (and he found plenty of them) did this Bible become his first choice.

My 12 year old grandchild attended Vacation Bible School for the first time this summer. She has never had a Bible and she found this one to be well organized and in fairly simple terms. She reads it often (for her)...she hates reading, so I am pleased with the product.

This is a great Bible. Straight word of God with easy wording for kids. Amazon has the cheapest price for new copies on the internet today. Even buying the bibles from the Group (publisher), you'll pay 15.99 for HUGE quantities or 19.99 for just one. This is a steal when you consider the free shipping bonus!
