Computer Activities for Teaching Math
Hands-On Computer Activities for Teaching math shows classroom math teachers and math specialists for grades 3 through 8 how to combine math and technology education to support national math standards and increase their students' computer proficiency levels. Beverly Burnley's unique system of effective, ready-to-use projects explains key concepts in five basic areas of math:
Featured here are more than a hundred step-by-step activities that use common computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Paint, to model the different math concepts. Each activity is explained in simple, nontechnical directions, and includes a specific learning objective and an illustration of the model to be created. After a guided lesson, students can create other models and explain the math concepts on their own. All activities are based on the NCTM standards and can be easily adapted to the different grade levels.
This indispensable, timesaving resource makes it easy to integrate computers into the math curriculum. Students will enjoy the math curriculum. Students will enjoy creating math images and modeling the various concepts-and they will better retain these concepts through their hands-on work while simultaneously increasing their computer skills.

This review is from: Hands-On Computer Activities for Teaching Math: Grades 3-8 (Jossey-Bass Teacher) (Paperback)
I teach high school special education. I have to do "portfolio assessments" on my students who do not take the state mandated tests. It is hard to find good activities for the portfolios that are easy enough for my students, but meet high-school grade level learning objectives, and are age appropriate. Just because my students are at kindergarten-2nd grade level doesn't mean that I can use primary grade workbooks. This book is very good for all grades and would work for anyone who has to adapt lessons to meet needs of students at different levels. I stumbled across this book as one of those suggested items (people who bought this book, also bought this other book) that always pop up when you order. I LOVE this book. As soon as I got it I marched my kids down to the computer lab and did the first project in the book. It went perfectly. We have done several of the projects and they are all so easy and impressive. My students love it. Everything is set out in step-by-step directions so clearly. I loaned the book to a co-worker. She returned it the next day and said she didn't need it any longer because she went to Amazon and ordered her own copy.
