Not recommended for LG VX8350, June 25, 2009
This review is from: Premium 2.5mm to 3.5mm Hands-Free Headset Adapter Converter / Speaker Adaptor for Palm Centro, Treo 755P / Motorola VE240, VU30, VU204, W450, Q9c, Q9M, I335, I425, W755, Sidekick Slide, W370, Z6TV, ic902 / BlackBerry 8350i, 8820, 8830, 8100 (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I should make it clear up front that I purchased this adapter intending to use it with my LG VX8350 phone. My rating is based on compatibility with the VX8350 - so if you are thinking of using this adapter with a Samsung, Motorola, or another manufacturer you may want to consider this adapter because it appears to be well constructed.
When I plugged this adapter into the phone and then plugged in my 3.5mm headphones sound only came out of the right side. If I pulled the plug out about a half mm the sound came out of both sides. I got it to work eventually but it is not a good solution for the VX8350 in my humble opinion. As I tried to make this adjustment the phone would often switch out of music mode to voice command mode. It's quite annoying. It may be possible to modify the adapter or perhaps insert a washer/spacer-ring between the plug base and the phone to get it to work. But it isn't worth my time.
I compared the 2.5mm plug of this adapter to another stereo headset with 2.5mm four conductor stereo plug made by Samsung and another adapter designated for Motorola - Motorola Headset Adapter (3.5mm to 2.5mm). I also compared it to the LG OEM headset - LG Handfree Stereo Headset for the LG Chocolate and other compatible LG handsets. The LG 2.5 mm plug is not the same as the Samsung or Moto. The center two conductors of this adapter are wider and the common is narrower. Same is true for this adapter. I posted a picture showing the LG OEM adapter plug side-by-side with the other two plugs. You can see that the "Premium" adapter (subject of this review) has a conductor pitch that is nearly the same as the Motorola adapter.
I've read a number of other reviews for the Motorola adapter written by LG ENV2 & ENV3 users that they have been happy using that particular adapter with their phones. If that adapter works for those phones, I imagine this one would as well. Purely speculation, so take it for what it's worth.
I would expect that the "Premium" adapter is okay for a Moto phone or a Samsung phone. But if you own an LG you should probably pass on this item.
It's a shame because the LG adapter (while I definitely prefer it) has some major short comings - primarily reliability. The strain relief on the plug/cable is not at all rugged and just doesn't hold up over time. I've had two of them fail over the period of two years. This "Premium" adapter would probably be superior if the conductor pitch/spacings were appropriate for the LG.
UPDATED (1/16/2010) I finally found some time to take a photo of the two plugs side by side (I went ahead and included the Motorola plug in the shot.) I used the smallest grid I had for the background. I tried to get them aligned to the grid paper - didn't really succeed - but you will be able to get a good idea of what I have described above.

Fit's but does not work in BlackBerry 8800, June 2, 2010
This review is from: Premium 2.5mm to 3.5mm Hands-Free Headset Adapter Converter / Speaker Adaptor for Palm Centro, Treo 755P / Motorola VE240, VU30, VU204, W450, Q9c, Q9M, I335, I425, W755, Sidekick Slide, W370, Z6TV, ic902 / BlackBerry 8350i, 8820, 8830, 8100 (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I bought this to share a pair of headphone w/mic between my iTouch and my BlackBerry 8800. I get sound but it is horrible. I switched to a different adapter and it works just fine. I noticed that this is a 3 pole (3 band) adapter and the one from RIM is a 2 band even though I am doing stero sound and mic. I can not recomend this for use with a BlackBerry.
