Hands-On Math Projects with Real-Life Applications offers many math projects classified for an integrated approach to math and other subjects. As a parent who is home schooling a teenager I have found the projects to be a helpful resource. Each project identifies the learning goal, math skills which will used, material needed and how to conduct the project. Although geared to math teachers in a school setting I have found it very helpful in the home school setting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and useful September 30, 2000

The Muschla's book is an excellent resource for the Algebra II and Pre-Algebra classes I teach. The best part about this book is that the materials are all there (worksheets, instructions, etc.), and they can be easily adapted to the various high school mathematics levels of instruction. I will start a project during one class period, then allow students time at the end of class on subsequent days to complete it as a supplement to my lessons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Experience December 20, 2012
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I teach college algebra and was interested in finding "real-life applications" to help illustrate how they use math everyday. Many of the material I reviewed while written for the middle school or high school student was simply to young for my students. I have had some training in Problem Based Learning and wanted to try it with these students. This book not only gave me the applications, they are written at a high enough level that my students won't feel dumb. I also learned a lot from the teacher resource area on setting up and conducting a PBL classroom and project.
This book is really good for middle school and up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Many options August 27, 2013

I use this book for Pre-Algebra and Consumers Math. The book is broken up into other subjects while useing math. (Math and Science, Math and Social Studies, Math and Sports, etc.) A lot of it is data collection, observation, charts and tables. You can add more detail or take away as you think. I do love how it integrates writing into majority of the projects. Each project has a page or two for the teacher, followed by a page or two for the student. I have enjoyed having this suplement in my classroom.
