So first off, the name is actually "Tornado," not "Torando." I assumed "tornado" referred to the lightning speed at which this can opener is supposed to work. Unfortunately, it's less tornado, more slow-moving front. But at least it DOES work, which is more than I can say for its biggest competitor, the One-Touch, which as some other reviewers have mentioned has gone way downhill in the past five years. My feeling is that the One-Touch is no longer made by the original company; I went through three One-Touches in a year, where they used to last a couple of years each. So back to the Tornado. I gulped at the almost $40 price point (it has since dropped in price significantly), but took the plunge because I hate hand-crank openers and I was not going to waste more money on another One-Touch. As mentioned, it's not fast, but once we got the hang of using it, we've found that it's pretty reliable. The main thing to figure out is that it doesn't turn off on its own; you have to hit the button to stop it. Again, through trial and error, we learned to start the opener at the 12:00 position so that we know to turn it off when it gets back to that point. Like the One-Touch, it removes the entire top of the can, so if you like to strain your tuna juice using the lid, remember to use a hand-crank for that. The Tornado is getting a 3 for now, but I'll upgrade my rating as soon as I know for sure I won't be throwing it away in four months. Stock up on AA batteries; the Tornado needs 4 and doesn't come with any.

I bought it, tried to open a can of Bush's Baked Beans. It left a slight dent but would not cut the rim. Amazon customer service was great. The opener does not work!

This is the worst product I have ever had. It goes so slow and you have to change batteries every time you use it. When you put it on the can it takes for ever. And stops right after you put it on. I will tell everyone not to buy these.

The negative reviews I have read are frustrating to me. The instructions are so clearly written on the opener itself and yet people complain about how it works, because they aren't following instructions and are missing out on a good product. Mine has worked on every can I have tried it on, still running on the same batteries and I love it. My hands can't use a can opener and although it is a little slow, it does a great job. It's a gentle start, no forcing needed and if you listen, you can tell when it has completed opening the can by the change in sound and then you just press the button again to stop it and it will back up a bit to disengage itself and .......done. I liked one persons suggestion of pushing start button starting on the can at 12:00......position of the clock.....and it's done when it is at 12:00 again, then push button again to stop. Listening works for me as I chop onions or whatever while it's working on opening the can. Great for people with painful joints, weak hands, arthritis etc. as a gift. I use it to open tuna cans also.....just wedge the lid in the can when opened and press on one side (opposite side of the draining side) several times until drained. No chance of cutting myself. Viola!.

Only worked once and that was it! Cost too much money for something that only worked once. I ordered another old fashioned electric one and it works terrific.

This can opener is a not worth one dime! It is slow and uses up the battery until you manually stop the thing. It does not even latch onto some cans. It is slower than manually opening a can you self the old fashioned way. The "Tornado" probably is referring to the lost, dispointed feeling you get after trying to use it. I am not sure how they make any money on this thing. It is cheap, cheap, and does not deliver on the job AT ALL. do not bother buying this thing unless you want a paperweight for something,....

We purchased this item. Worked great on maybe 10 cans. We had to push and nudge alittle but maybe we are learning how to use it. Within 2 weeks the mechanism that cuts the can fell apart. We are stubborn so we purchased another one (I really liked the size). Can I say crap? Don't bother.

I like it when it works. I had to get adjusted to it and I stopped using it for a while. Some cans are hard to open and the magnet only worked 2 out of 3 times. It did not lift the top on some tops. It would be nice to know when the can has been cut. Sometimes I had to let it go through twice and watch where I started from. In a few times I squeezed the can and the top came off. I have arthritis in the fingers so squeezing can be hard. Be careful the edges on the can and top can cut you.
