The best case,

This review is from: Handspring Slim Leather Case (Office Product)
One of my favorite perks about the Handspring is that they werebuilt w/ the thought of one day clipping into somesort of acase. All PDA's on the market today attach to day planners or cases w/ the use of a LOT of velcro. This is a sloppy solution and something I always dreaded doing to such an expensive device. Now comes handspring. I don't know why they don't advertise this feature at all (you can't tell from the photos) but the case is designed such that it is "clipped" very securely into all sorts of accessories - No Velcro! Love it! If you go to their website you'll see many, many more cases available (you'll want to stick to cases that were specifically designed for handspring or you're getting a velcro deal). I own 4 different case solutions (it comes w/ a plastic cover, or a fake leather slip cover). Of them all this is my favorite general use case. I also recommend the hard plastic belt clip case because it protects the device when tossing it in a backpack, etc..( )- a cheap low tack adhesive covering for the screen called WriteRight - because once the screen is scratched, it's scratched. This clear covering is replaceable when it gets too scratched (maybe bi-monthly) - and is pretty inexpensive. Hopefully Amazon will start carrying more accesories - I prefer shopping here (faster delivery, cheaper shipping, and customer comments are always handy). END

Very good alternative...only minor flaws,

This case is certainly one of the best options currently available for your Visor, especially if you prefer to make the transition from wallet to a case that stores your money and credit cards along with your lifeline, the Visor. First of all, the feel of the case is excellent. It's nice and soft and smells very leathery. Of course, the best thing about this case and all other Handspring-made cases is that they have that front/back hard plastic cover that is included with the Visor sewn into every case. Only problem is that with the SLIM leather case, sewing that entire thing into it really adds to the width. In my opinion, they could have just sewn in the top piece and the bottom piece and left the center out. But that is not what we have here. Should we compare this to other companies' cases, however, which use velcro almost exclusively, this and other Handspring cases have a clear advantage. Some people complain about not having a stylus holder, but truthfully, I don't think it's needed because there is a stylus right in the Visor. Perhaps there could have been a tiny bit more space between the Visor and the credit card side, but it still closes fine. It doesn't take very long to break in either, so this is really not an issue. The velcro that closes the case is a great idea, because who wants to push a snap into the screen of your Visor? Very important: If you're going to store credit cards in this case, make sure the lowest position card is sticking up ALL THE WAY PAST THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. If you don't, that card will scratch up your screen or WriteRight pretty severely. There is also plenty of room for cash and/or more credit cards in the other slot - the case closes fine with all of it. So overall, the case is worth 4 1/2 stars to me, but we can't rate it with the 1/2. It's as slim a case as the Visor can have (unless they cut down on some of that plastic cover), and it has slots to make this case a wallet, something that can save you from having to carry both a wallet and your Visor separately. It could have a bit more room in the middle but doesn't really need it, and it could be a little less thick in your pocket, but it's not too bulky. I also feel secure about the Visor when it's in this case. Credit cards sort of protect the front (if you use them) more than simply the leather, but only if they extend past the top of the screen. And of course, the back is protected by the plastic cover. If you want a case for your Visor, and you want to toss the wallet aside for an all in one option, this one's for you.

Leather or Leatherette?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Handspring Slim Leather Case (Office Product)
I have had this case for my Handspring Visor for four months. After a short time, wear begins to show which makes me wonder if deed, is it leather or leatherette! The leather/leatherette veneer strap which attaches to the cover via velcro started to show cracks after 2 months. I would recommend the heavier leather case over this one. If you have a Visor, you'll know just how much use you get out of it so you may as well spend a little more and get the better leather case.

Well made but design could be better,

This s a well-made case, nice leather, and has the advantage that all real Visor cases have that it holds the Visor with a clip, not velcro on the back which can interfere with using the Visor out of the case. But the design should be better. These are shortcomings which made me return the one I bought: *If it were about 1/4" taller it would hold standard 3x5 cards, replacing a jotter pad. As it is, it does not hold any standard size card or paper. *When the case is open, the velcro tab keeps flopping over the Visor itself. I would have preferred an internal velcro closure, or a magnetic one. *The velcro tab interferes with slipping the case into a suit pocket...it invariabley catches on the pocket edge. See the comment above as to a solution. *The case is about 1/8" less in depth than it needs to be to close smoothly and flat over the Visor. With credit cards or business cards in the left-hand pockets, this is even more of a problem. I suggest a thin but stiff plastic sheet be bound into the next edition of this case to separate the left side of the case from the screen of the Visor.

If you have a Visor, you'll want this case,

I ordered this case at the same time I ordered my Visor. I have workmates that use Visors, and seeing them slip the Visor in and out of those slip covers that come with the Visor, and then pop off that plastic face shield every time they use their Visor just looked awful. Looks awkward, and knowing me, I'd end up droping the thing one day just getting it out of the case. So, onto this case. I like how it's made specifically for the Visor. It clips into the case very easily, and is very secure. But, at the same time, it also comes out easy enough when you want to sync. The leather is not cheap, but rather very nice. It's soft, black, and does not look tacky at all. And I'm really into product design stuff. It's easy to hold in your hand, and even fits in your pocket, should you find the need. The Velcro strap worries me a little, because I'm sure it'll wear out eventually, but at that point, the case itself will probably be beat up as well. I figure if the case lasts a year or so, you're in good shape. The strap does kind get in my way when I have the case open and I'm tapping away. But, I've found that I can just tuck the strap under the Visor and it's out of my way. I do not put any credit cards in the slots. I think cards would scratch the screen. I don't use this as a wallet, but of course, you're free to use your own judgement. The Visor is a little exposed in this case (on the edges), and I'm not sure how much protection you'd get in a fall, but I guess it would be more than if you had no case at all, or even if you used the case that comes w/ the Visor. Also, the stylus is a little hard to get to with this case, but it's not that big a deal. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this case. I ordered it based on the picture and the reviews written here. I am a tough customer when it comes to stuff like this . . . stuff I use everyday, and expect good fucationality out of, and this product does not disapoint. If you need a case, or are just now buying a Visor, I think this is the first add-on you should buy.

Ok, I have bought this case for my Platinum. I've used and abused it for awhile now, and have my thoughts.First, this is NOT a case to use if you are rough on things. The protection for the screen is minimal. If you are likely to drop it on cement, or likely to throw it into a briefcase with various books, DON'T buy this case. Pros: Good leather. Nice Visor attachment mechanism. The clip does hold my platinum nicely. Small sized. Take your Visor, clip the cover that came with it on it, and slide it into the case that came with it. This case will add only a few centimeters all the way around to the size. Cons: I hate velcro straps. Velcro over time tends to wear out. Really this case is great for slipping it into your pocket and carrying your Visor around. I am rough on things and tend to beat them up. I have this case and love it. I haven't destroyed it or my Platinum yet. I AM going to get a hardshell case, mainly so I can put my Visor in my briefcase and backpack without worrying. However, given the limitation on protection, this is a good case.

I enjoy the Handspring Slim Leather Case a lot! It's a bifold case where the Visor snaps into place on one side, and you can put credit cards on the other. I now currently use this instead of my wallet. I put my driver's license, credit cards, money, and checks in it. It's small and light, and has that great new leather smell to it. It's affordable as well. The only thing I was expecting was a slot for the stylus pen. That would have made it complete!

The perfect match for the Visor Platinum,

.I bought one of these for my girlfriend to use with her Xmas present--a Visor Platinum. The combination is outstanding. The Visor is a little too fat to slide in a pocket like my Palm 3xe, but for a woman with a purse, or a man with a suit pocket, this is ideal. It is sharp looking, and has room for a few business or credit cards. The Platinum is a gorgeous PDA. This leather case make it look even sharper and more professional. The leather pouch that comes with the Platinum provides good protection, but doesn't cut it for everyday use. This fold-out leather case is the one to get. Conrad B. Senior

A nice, dedicated case for the Handspring Visor.,

I like this case. I like how the Visor just clips into it and doesn't require any Velco tape. The slots for credit cards, business cards, and money are very handy. The case isn't much larger than the Visor itself and is thin enough to fit into a back pocket, but you need to remember not to sit on it! If you're ever worried about the screen, you can insert the Visor in backwards and get extra protection from the plastic back (they've basically sewn the plastic cover that comes with the Visor into the case). The construction is very nice. My only major wish is that the Visor was completely sealed by the case. Three sides remain mostly exposed to the elements, so this case can't even be considered weather resistant.

A perfect combination of protection, function, and size,

Handspring has succeeded so brilliantly in large part because of their engineering prowess. Their design of the Visor and its cases is truly superb. The bifold case is padded enough to keep your visor safe from the occasional light drop, and let's face it, gravity will eventually exert its effects, no matter how careful you are. The case also contains a small pad, which is ideal for giving a small note to a non-Palm associate. PDAs are great, but they don't print--yet. Perhaps the best selling point, though, is it's size. It's large enough for the pad, some business cards, ID cards, credit card-sized cards, etc, and large enough so you don't lose it by forgetting it (I've seen people forget smaller devices). It's not too large, though, to tote around all day or pack quickly. In fact, it even fits comfortably in my chinos. I've seen a number of Visor cases, and while others certainly have merit, this is by far my favorite "everyday" case. |
