5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book!, July 20, 2004
This review is from: Handstitched Tao Bamboo Lined (Hardcover)
It's sometimes difficult to know until you hold a journal in your hands if its quality is worthy of your thoughts. Curious about this series of blank books, I located one in a Border's store so I could examine it closely, and was sold (though I actually bought several of various styles through Amazon due to the greatly reduced price and wide selection).

Just wanted to reassure any curious journal-keepers that this is a very nice book for having paper binding. The surfaces of the front and back plates are silky smooth, taut and very pretty. The spine, being sewn with strings, is tight, yet allows the book to lay completely flat when open. The pages inside are very smooth, practically non-porous grain, and of a medium weight, thick enough for fine-tip pen-and-ink, but too thin for any other medium of drawing or writing element. I'm usually a fan of leather-bound journals because they're sturdier and more aesthetically pleasing to me, but as paper-bound journals go, these are among the nicest I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars My dream journal, April 13, 2003
This review is from: Handstitched Tao Bamboo Lined (Hardcover)
I am very particular with my journals. Every journal I've ever owned has not satisfied me completely, and that disheartens me deeply. This journal, however, is so unique and practical that I cannot bear to think how I've written in all those other journals! The binding is sturdy yet allows for the book to lie flat. The lines don't bleed to the edges, which is great. I hate fullbled-lined journals. The pages are perfect too. They're tinted cream and are thick enough for you to use ink without seeing your writing on the other side. There are enough pages for your writing needs, and the pages themselves are large enough for you to hold much journaling! I personally could care less for covers, as I usually re-decorate them myself, but I think I'll keep this one as it's a delight to look at. I wish I bought it online, but after seeing it at the store, I couldn't _not_ buy it.

!!

I usually buy the textbook-like journal. I have six written journals so far. When I went into Borders and saw this journal, I was upset that I didn't start my collection with this journal. This book gives you the ability to write more on each page because of the open-backed spine. You'll love this book, only if you are serious about your writings. The price is better over the net. Trust me....

4.0 out of 5 stars review, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Handstitched Tao Bamboo Lined (Hardcover)
This is really an excellent journal!
The only downside is that the shipping does leaves scratch marks on the cover, as previously mentioned, but that isn't really visible unless you examine it closely.
However, the actual journal was unbelievable. The pages are of exceptional quality, I was able to use ink and pens on them fairly well. The lining on the actual paper isn't as dark as I expected it to be, either, which would probably distract from the actual content! :)
The pages are also handstitched, which was surprising to me.. The spine has six little braided strings stitched into the cover, making it easy to sit open without stretching or damaging the book itself. The back even had a pouch to store things in (it is actually quite large).
I recently visited a bookstore to compare prices, I'd have to say that amazon's was much less expensive.. A few scratches on the cover is worth the price, I think..!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nicely made journal book, January 15, 2006
This review is from: Handstitched Tao Bamboo Lined (Hardcover)
Everything about the journal is good. Nice construction, nice hard cover. The only gripe I have is on the shipping end. The book came in a cardboard envelope with no padding wrapping around the book, so the front and back hard cover, I can see scratch marks from rubbing against the cardboard shipping envelope.... so If you want to give this as a gift, you should consider gift wrapping it, might help to protect from scratches. 4 stars due to bad shipping, else it would have been 5.

This is gorgeous! It's a lined journal. You can open it flat with no problems. It does not look or appear to be fragile. There's a sleeve at the back of the journal so that you can put things in it. The paper is of excellent quality. However, I do not think that there are enough pages, so if you intend to use it as a diary or a daily journal, you'll probably run out of space in about...4 months. Otherwise I think this is a good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars More beautiful than expected, January 9, 2007

This review is from: Handstitched Tao Bamboo Lined (Hardcover)
This journal is very nicely made. It is sturdy and being a left-hander, it is comfortable for writing. It was definitely more beautiful in design than I expected. I'm very pleased with this journal as I have been journaling for many years and pass over many other journals I've seen in bookstores because they're difficult to use for left-handed people.
