5.0 out of 5 stars ALL original recordings, 22 of the 25 tracks are Jones SOLO career! -- This is a great C.D.
(These comments are for the c.d. "Handy Man" with Jones wearing a red sweater on the cover, sitting on a large rock, with water behind him))
Although popular for only a short time, Jones recorded some classics! His high tenor voice on these recordings is superb!
He had four songs on the pop chart between 1959 and 1961.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jones' later recordings, NOT--- the early sixties
(These comments are for the c.d. with Jones wearing a green sweater on the front cover. "Jimmy Jones" is red type, & "Handy man" is blue type) These 16 tracks of Jimmy Jones are mostly the late sixties and early seventies R&B sound. This c.d. has some o.k. songs, and there is one hit "Handy man" but if you're looking for his sixties hits, b-sides, or album cuts, or his...

1. "Handy man" b/w "The search is over" -- his classic 1959 top ten hit, is timeless.
2. "Good timin'" b/w "My Precious Angrl" -- a 1960 top ten hit, remains a classic today.
3. "That's when I cried" b/w "I just go for you" -- 1960, is as good a song as the first two.
4. "I told you so" b/w "You got it" -- 1961, another good song, and his last to chart.
Those 4 and their b-sides are here in this 25 track stereo c.d. of ALL ORIGINAL RECORDINGS.

All but three song are from Jones solo career in this comprehensive compilation.
In 1956 Jones was a member of a group named "The Savorys", here are three songs in their original versions as recorded with "The Savorys".
1. "With all my heart".
2. "We made a vow"
3. "Say you're mine".
There is one typo -- track 17 IS "Too long will be too late" NOT "Too young will be too late"

This ENTIRE c.d. is EXCELENT! It's the 60s R&B sound that I love to listen to. This is worth owning.
Jimmy Jones was born in Biringham, Alabama in 1937. His original version of "Handy man" has been 'covered' by, Del Shannon in 1964, and James Taylor in 1977.
Jones had continued to record on various labels through the 60's, and on his own label into the early 1970s.
None of his late sixties and early seventies music is here.

This C.D. is from Cub Records Inc., a subsidiary of M.G.M. Recorded in the U.S.A.
Released in 1993, these are original stereo recordings, and have excellent sound.
Stated on the C.D. is "Special Disc Jockey Record".
One page liner notes give a brief overview of Jones career.
I highly recommend this collection to anyone who loves the early 1960s R&B sound, and a "bit" of doo-wop.

Jones continued to record into the early seventies, and had his own label. (This 2009 release is on "Vanilla" label omp) Jones had a great voice, and had 4 songs chart between 1959 and 1961. 1."Handy man" > 2."Good timin" > 3."That's when I cried" (that is a great song) and 4."I told you so.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good things definitely do come in small packages, October 23, 2007
This review is from: Handy Man (Audio Cassette)
First, let me start out by saying that despite what Amazon's heading for this product says, I am not aware of any way in which the Beatles may be associated with this tape.

Jones had a number 1 hit with the title song but didn't end up going very far beyond that. This compilation, which is only about 16 minutes long (hence the title of the review), is a budget-minded, cassette only collection that contains 8 of the songs that he recorded during the early 60s. I've omitted one star because they left out "Good Timin'" (his only other hit), but all of the songs on here show what a fine singer he was, especially "Never Had It So Good" which features some great octave shifting on his part, and is backed by a pleasant doo-wop chorus.
