Unlike the other reviewers I have had good success with these. Perhaps the difference is that I have experience hanging drywall and these are just a nice little tool to help speed something along that I already have the feel for. I can see how it does take some practice to get the feel for using these things, so if you have never done drywall and are only going to use them for your first and only job, they may not be worth it. However, if you already have experience for the process of hanging drywall I think you will find these helpful in some applications. I say in some applications because the guys who do drywall day in and day out would probably be slowed down by these things, because they seem to be able to feel the boxes in the wall and cut at the right location based solely on the bulge in the panel. For the rest of us who do drywall, but have never been comfortable feeling for the boxes, locating them in the sheet to cut is always a time problem.

Keep in mind that if you are working alone, a 4x8 or 4x12 sheet of drywall can be unwieldy to work with and maneuver into place. This is probably why the other reviewers have had trouble with bent pins. You need to be able to have a method for supporting the drywall so that you can align it properly and then push it straight into the wall so the pins puncture the Sheetrock in the correct place. For bottom pieces I use shims that support the board 1/2 inch off the floor so I don't have to carry the weight of the board while also aligning it. For upper sheets, depending on the location of the boxes, you can rest the panel on the installed lower sheet and then pivot in. If the lower sheet is not in yet, you can screw temporary supporting blocks to the studs to hold the sheet while you align it.

This invention is the greatest thing since "sliced bread". I own and use 4 of them; before I discovered/ordered them, I used cheap red nail polish to mark the outline of electrical boxes. These "markers" fit the cheaper plastic boxes with precision; I haven't tried them on metal boxes so I cannot comment. As noted in other reviews, they fit the premium fiberglass outlet box but don't "adhere", but I concocted a simple solution....spray the premium outlet boxes using 3M Corner Bead (drywall tape) adhesive spray....I'm sure cheaper adhesive spray will work. I also cut out and remove the middle plastic "spring" out of the HandyMark(ers)....I don't have an issue with the marker sticking to the back of the sheetrock....the six pinholes mark the box outline and my Makita multi-tool cuts perfect rectangles every time with ease. I cut the rectangle slightly larger than the pinhole perimeter to allow for adjustment of the drywall sheet on the wall....the result comes out perfect every time, often with several boxes per 4x8 sheet (switch and outlets)....just place the bottom of the sheet against the bottom of the wall and gently angle the sheet rock up and against the HandyMark bulge....I have yet to bend any pins....they seem robust to me. I have been finishing basements for over 30 years andwish these had been invented long ago....it greatly simplifies the job of cutting outlets out of sheet rock. UPDATE: the HandyMark marker fits perfectly into Lowes premium (fiberglass) outlet boxes....and Lowes' premium box costs less than HD's fiberglass box.

Seem to work good for there function but the trick is you have to make sure the drywall is were you want it before you press in. When using 4x12 sheets it is very hard to get it set correctly while holding it away from the wall a few inches...

Also I bought boxes that had tabs on them to set the box 1/2" out from the stud to match the drywall depth. These markers do not have a matching notch cutout on them so they would not install. I had to cut myself...

I have hung drywall before and had to carefully measure where to make the cutouts for the electrical boxes. No matter how carefully I measured, I frequently got it wrong. With these markers, there were no mistakes. They made marking the cutouts so easy I can't believe someone didn't think of this long ago. If you are working with drywall, these are an absolute must have.

Getting outlet holes in the right place always took me a little longer. This device works exactly as advertised. It took me about 2 minutes to locate and cut an outlet hole exactly where it was suppose to be, first time with no errors. This item is a permanent addition to my tool bag. Great product!!!!

So glad I found these when my son was sheetrocking his house. Sure cuts out the measuring or use of the "lipstick" method. It is a tiny bit of a struggle to get these seated evenly in the plastic electric housing boxes; however, once in they work perfect. There are six prongs that pierce the back of the sheetrock giving you perfect cutout area (provided you have your sheetrock hung correctly before the piercing process). This fits the single box but not the double. We looked at the magnet system, it just couldn't arrive in time for our sheetrock hanging "party"!

I would definately recommend!
