5.0 out of 5 stars Handyman in your pocket
This book provides the many little used or remembered variables to get projects completed correctly. Going to provide irrigation for your green house 118 feet out in your back yard? This book lets you know the friction losses of various types of water pipe you might use so that you end up with a stream instead of a trickle.
Got 6/12 roof meeting a 10/12 and need...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Technical For What I needed
We own a professional handyman service in Scottsdale, AZ and thought this might be handy to keep in the trucks. However, the information in this book is so technical, it is of no real use on a day-to-day basis. If you need to know (and even know that you need to know) the distance across squares and hexagons OR Maximum Horizontal Roof Rafter Spans, then this is the book...

Got 6/12 roof meeting a 10/12 and need to know how to use that combination square to get the right cut? This book has it. As Chuck Yeager says, don't wait for trouble; look it up and get it right the first time. A few bucks for this helpful little book can save you big in the long run.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Handyman is great!, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Handyman In-Your-Pocket (Paperback)
I can't believe just how much this book and the others in the Pocket Ref. series actually contain. As a full time engineering student, welder, and DIY'er, I don't think I'll ever need to know anything that isn't within the contents of this book. From frictional losses, to fasteners, to every type of conversion imaginable, it can be found in these pocket ref books. How I lived without them is a mystery to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fine Young reference book, March 29, 2005

This review is from: Handyman In-Your-Pocket (Paperback)
I own a number of the pocket references in this series. I originally purchased the Pocet Reference , 1st edition, several years ago and found it to be quite useful. After I bought, The Handyman in a Pocket, I find it to be the reference I go to first. It seems to have a database of information directed at the home improver, hobbyist and/or gadget person. I even keep a copy at work where it is a mini-information sorce for practical reference tables in my work as a development chemist.

All I can say about this book is... be sure to check the index. This book is filled with more info than most of us will ever need. The only problem has been finding it. Well, this book has it someplace in its 760 some odd pages.

Just as much info as Pocket Ref, but geared more towards a tradesmen or contractor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book!, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Handyman In-Your-Pocket (Paperback)
This book is a miniature goldmine of useful info for building. I like how it has a section on pulleys on gearing, which the regular pocketref does not. It also omits some of the less practical sections that the pocketref had.

This book is fantasic for those of us who don't have degrees in construction or engineering. Great to have for the occasional carpenter, electrician, plumber, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Gift for Mechanical Engineer Dad, December 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Handyman In-Your-Pocket (Paperback)
I got this book for my dad who is a mechanical engineer. I am a food science engineer, so I flipped thru the pages and seems to have great information that you might not remember if you are not blessed with photographic memory (i.e. formulas, conversion charts, etc.). I believe this will be a great addition to my dad's collection of books that actually serve a purpose on his job. I cannot give it 5 stars because I am not the end user, but I would say I really like it and I am sure my dad will love it!
