5.0 out of 5 stars Learning Hang Gliding Skills for Beginner to Intermediate Pi, July 12, 2000

The Hanggliding training manual is an absolute must for the beginner. I started Hanggliding in 1974, and got his books as a birthday present a few years after. Then I started to learn and understand the whole concept of the principals of flight much better. The illustartions are great I use them in my teaching the sport of Hanggliding, and the articles are ease to follow. So after a days out with the school go and get yourself lost in this book.

An excellent book: Well written, loaded with diagrams and information, great for the novice. I have spent good money on disappointing hang gliding books and videos. This manual, however, is worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a keeper..., January 3, 2004

I've bought other HG books & returned or trashed them. The cheaper books are way to basic. Dennis & his wife made this manual easy to read & understand plus the drawings are right to the point. Even if you never hang glide, but are interested in it, this is the book to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars My opinion on "Hang Gliding Training Manual", April 7, 1999

This review is from: Hang Gliding Training Manual: Learning Hang Gliding Skills for Beginner to Intermediate Pilots (Paperback)
This book is a real must for starting hangglider pilots. It covers a lot of aspects of hanggliding, for instance : Glider equipment, safetymeasures, the history of hanggliding, understanding aerodynamics, and much more. The book has a lot of pictures and drawings in it wich are great for understanding, for instance, the aerodynamics part.

5.0 out of 5 stars Title says it correctly, July 30, 2007
This review is from: Hang Gliding Training Manual: Learning Hang Gliding Skills for Beginner to Intermediate Pilots (Paperback)
As a matter of fact, when I purchased hang gliding lessons they provided this training manual as part of the package. Everything that has been covered so far in lessons is referenced in this training manual. The technicals of weather and how to guage it are very well written. Despite being an older manual, alot of the Hang Glider components are still in use of the beginner and intermediate hang gliders in use today.

Although I do not believe you should rely on this book alone to learn how to hang glide, I think every school which instructs can use this book as the reference guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book Hang Gliding Training Manual, August 8, 2010
This review is from: Hang Gliding Training Manual: Learning Hang Gliding Skills for Beginner to Intermediate Pilots (Paperback)
One of my old, high school friends started hangliding a few years back and it really sounded like fun. This book is really helpful in teaching the basics on hang gliding. I read through the book twice and was much more prepared for when he gave me my first lesson with one of his gliders. He was amazed how quickly I picked it up, for a first time flyer. I still have a lot to learn though, that will mostly just come with experience.

This book has a complete comprehensive description of all aspects of Hang Glinding, better than that only the actual flying itself!
One of the very best sports "how to" books ever, this book rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars A complete and well written guide to hang gliding !, January 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hang Gliding Training Manual: Learning Hang Gliding Skills for Beginner to Intermediate Pilots (Paperback)
Hi there,

I bought this guide since the issues in German were outdated and are not actualized anymore due to the Paragliding hype of the last years. Dannis Pagen has come up with the most complete and elaborate guide to hang gliding for beginners, with many clear hand drawn images and expert advice on many (seemingly) smaller things (for example how to set up the glider, providing a pre-checklist....). The book covers pretty much everything from beginner to intermediate skill and carefully explains everything there is to know in great detail(from the first flight to different starting methods, soaring, thermaling etc etc).

I can only recommend this book if someone has just started to fly or for pilots that want to refresh their theoretical knowledge about flying ... everybody will find helpful advice in this book and it is just fun to read!
