Back With A Vengance,

This review is from: Hang Love (Audio CD)
Hang Love is The Burning Brides 3rd record, and it is amazing. To me it takes all the best parts of their two previous records Fall of the Plastic Empire and Leave No Ashes, and then adds a whole heaping of Heavy. Having been a fan for a long time, its great to see them continuing to push themselves to make their songs better, and not rest on their laurels. My picks for top song are: Waring Street, Your Nation Will Die, and Poor House.

Burning Brides is one of those garage sounding type of bands. Not at all what you would call main stream but good solid rock none the less. Their second CD, "Leave No Ashes", was a great independent listen and to date, my favorite by this small group. Hang Love seems a bit like they took some of the more popular songs off the last CD and copied all their songs to sound like them. It's not a bad CD at all, but to me, most of the songs sound alike. Still, it's the kind of music I tend to play in my band. It's worth a listen, hey, you may just fall in love.

The coolest couple in rock music Dimitri and Melanie Coats, the signer/guitarist and bassist for Philly band Burning Brides have got one sick little record on their hands here. With "Hang Love" the group proves that even though hard rock has taken a dive since the early nineties days of pumpkin smashing, pearl jamming, nirvana seeking and temple pilot stoning, there are still bands capable of the same quality producing great music underground. The Guitar Hero-ready tracks like "San Diego" and "Warring Street" blaze though some of the most incredible churning guitar work that I have heard in years. Lyrically the album touches on qusai-apocalyptic, dark visuals like "your reflection is making you cry, your nation will die" juxtaposed with romantic proclamations like "love can change you, love can make amends, all that we have in the end". Dynamic arrangements, most present on the first track "Ring Around the Rosary" which evolves from nasty, heavy, rock-swagger in the beginning, to just plain demonic by the end, show that the band has got solid song-writing to boot. - Tyler Starkey
