Amazing Debut,
By Blues Lover (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hang On To Nothing (Audio CD)
I am looking at the availability of this cd and I see it's available for like $1.50 used. It may be the best $1.50 you ever spend in your life. My gosh ... this is a gem of music that was an amazing debut for the Pistoleros. Released in 1997 on Hollywood Records, a small label based in New York City, the music is great ten years later. The title track, Hang On To Nothing, got air play, but the disc features 11 more foot stomping, head bopping tunes all with great lyrics, guitar riffs, drum beats, a snappy horn section. If you remotely like Los Lonely Boys, these guys were them 10 years ago, albeit not as overpoweringly "electric."The singing belongs to the brother tandem of Lawrence and Mark Zubia. Gary Smith keeps the beat going on drums. Thomas Laufenberg on guitar. Household names these guys are not, in fact the band might not even be together any longer. That's a shame. You will read review after review that suggest you make a purchase. You absolutely can not go wrong with this. Tracks & Ratings 1. Somehow, Someway - 5 stars (double this rating) 2. Hang On To Nothing - 4 stars (solid second offering) 3. My Guardian Angel - 5 stars (love the latin influence) 4. Wasting My Times - 5 stars (beautiful) 5. The Hardest Part - 5 stars (vocals in full swing) 6. Wild Love Coast - 4 stars (acoustic style ballad) 7. Funeral - 5 stars (great opening riffs) 8. Jackie - 3.5 stars (good, but not great) 9. Just To Hold On To You - (cool rocker) 10. Nothing Lasts Forever - (upbeat and edgy) 11. The Game - 4 stars (working music) 12. Lie To Me - 5 stars (closes the disc out in style)

Great follow up album from the former Chrimeras out of Tempe,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hang On To Nothing (Audio CD)
These guys were always my favorite band to see live at Wong's in Tempe and this album really captures that Tempe sound. They had to change their name from the Chimeras because it turns out there was already a European band with that name. If you can find the Chimeras debut CD, grab it because it's a treasure. Hang on to Nothing is full of good driving, upbeat music and a couple of solid ballads and Lawrence's vocal style is always worth a listen. See these guys live if you ever get the chance!

If You Liked the Gin Blossoms and the Refreshments. . .,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hang On To Nothing (Audio CD)
...you'll also like The Pistoleros. These guys came out of the Tempe, AZ scene that also produced the Gin Blossoms and the Refreshments; in fact, ex-Blossoms guitarist Doug Hopkins helped found this group before he committed suicide and their first single, "My Guardian Angel," is one of his songs. (Let's hope the "Hopkins Curse" doesn't hit this band like it did the Gin Blossoms--R.I.P.) Once you get beyond that tune, you'll find plenty of melodic power pop gems, especially "The Hardest Part;" the title track; "Just to Hold On to You" and a beautiful, tender love ballad called "Wild Love Coast." The Pistoleros rock just a little harder than their Tempe bretheren for the most part, and you may detect some country and Latino influences as well (other than the painfully obvious ones on their first single.) That's because Lawrence and Mark Zubia, who lead the band, grew up playing mariachi music with their father. The Pistol! eros aren't the most original band on the planet (and I hate their name--I'd really like to know why they had to change it from their original name, The Chimeras) but this is really great summer music; fun and easy to listen to.

First of all, this CD is NOT called Temptation. As the cover states, it is in fact called "Hang onto Nothing". There is not even a song called Temptation. It's a great CD and a boo-boo like that does not help fans looking for "Hang onto Nothing."

It makes you hate the radio even more,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hang On To Nothing (Audio CD)
Because you all know that radio is so narrowly formatted, which sucks because great songs like the ones on this CD cant get played. I would rather listen to this CD over and over all day than the crap on radio these days. The other reviews described the quality of the music and singing, so I can only agree and recommend Pistoleros (good luck finding Chimeras too)

Why am I buying this again?,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hang On To Nothing (Audio CD)
this is my second purchase of this CD. I purchased the first one when it was originally released in the Houston area after hearing it on the radio. I have loved it ever since and due to repeated us and handling...I need to replace it. They remind me of a modern day Eagles. Wish I lived where I could see them live...or they'd come near me!! Buy and Enjoy!!!
