5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent message and a delightful delivery, December 5, 2010
This review is from: Hangin' With the Hombeez: The Spelling Bee (Hardcover)
The premise of a main character as a sneaker and backwards hat clad bee is one that children will relate to. B Cool and his friends are trying to go to a movie but they have no honey to pay for it. Therefore, B Cool, a bee that didn't think he needed to know how to spell, decides to get a job. However, he quickly learns that working requires skills that he didn't think he needed to know so after a frightening encounter with a wasp, B Cool decides that he needs to learn things. He realizes that school is cool and that it is smart to study.
The dialog in this book is excellent, it is rhymed verse that has a nice rhythm and beat to it. There are many pun references to bees and their activities that will delight the young reader. The overall message that you can be cool by being serious in school is one that cannot be overstated, both in volume and in frequency.
