Lincoln Borglum was a young boy when his father, the great sculptor Gutzon Borglum, suggested to a group of South Dakota businessmen that he should carve the faces of four presidents into a side of a mountain as an attraction for tourists. But Mount Rushmore would never be finished by Gutzon. It would be his son who would complete the fourteen-year task and present America with one of its most iconic symbols.

Tina Nichols Coury is an author, award winning multi-media artist, blogger, vlogger, producer of book trailers and all around Renaissance woman. Her article on book promotion in Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market 2010, "Blog Tours to Book Trailers," is a go-to resource for authors interested in promoting their books.
In her debut picture book, Hanging Off Jefferson's Nose: Growing Up on Mt. Rushmore (Dial Books for Young Readers, 2012), Tina brings to life the story of Lincoln Borglum, the boy who helped build Mt. Rushmore. In character as "The Rushmore Kid" (www.therushmorekid.com), she visits schools across the United States to present her popular "Why I Love America" program, which promotes an understanding and appreciation of the essential qualities that make America great.
Tina grew up in L.A. as the youngest of four children to a single saint of a mom. While attending twelve years of parochial school, she found writing a sure way to get out of homework, and suck up to the nuns. She wrote her first play, What Santa wants for Xmas, in third grade and had her class perform it.
On her popular kidlit blog, Tales from the Rushmore Kid (http://www.tinanicholscouryblog.com), Tina has interviewed some of the giants in children's literature, including Neil Gaiman, Sherman Alexie, Joan Bauer, John Green and Kathleen Duey.
Tina currently lives and works on the beach in Oxnard, California with her husband Al, their Doberman, Honey, and the Keyboard Kitties, Toulouse and Monet.
Tina is represented by Mark McVeigh, founder of The McVeigh Agency, New York, N.Y. For information on her school visits and writing workshops, contact her at info@tinanicholscoury.com
Hanging Off Jefferson's Nose tells young readers about the boy who grew up on Mt Rushmore, one of the most famous landmarks in America. Lincoln is the son of the sculptor Gutzon Borglum. Named after Abraham Lincoln, he is an American hero in his own right. Until now, his story has not been widely known. Young readers (and adults, too!) will love learning about Lincoln and the role he played in creating and completing the monument. The beautiful illustrations and engaging text offer the "story behind the story" including details about the challenges faced during the building process. A truly fascinating book!
A book about a hard-working young man, the son of Mount Rushmore sculptor Gutzon Borglum. The book focuses on Lincoln Borglum's early life of work and discipline and then the huge responsibility he undertook when his father died with the project incomplete. The story tells of the love the working men had for him, and of the respect he showed the local native Americans. The illustrations are excellent, rich in details and history. Winner in my book!
As an Elementary Principal, I highly recommend this book for children. With a focus on non-fiction reading in the schools, "Hanging on Jefferson's Nose" is an informative fun book for students to read. It relates to our history and provides students with a way to connect to our past. The book has strong vocabulary, accurate details and beautiful illustrations which makes children want to read. I wish more books for children had these qualities.
This is a beautifully illustrated well-written story about a little known subject. Almost everyone associates the Mount Rushmore monument with its designer and creator, Gutzon Borglum. How many people know that this majestic project was continued and finished by his son Lincoln? Children can learn about a great moment in American history and what hardships and obstacles were overcome in creating an American icon. A perfect book for ages 6 - 12, I purchased a copy for my grandchildren and watched them devour it.
This wonderful book is a triple whammy: It is beautfully and compellingly written. The illustrations are stunning. And best of all, it informs children in an entertaining way about an important facet of American history and geography. Warning to parents: After your kids read this book, they will want to see Mount Rushmore in person. Start packing!
This childrens book was awful!!!! It is clear to me that this author has no concept of what would entertain a childs mind through the exploration of reading; it is poorly written with awful illustrations. 3 pages into the book my child asked me for a spanking rather than finishing the bedtime story. Someone should throw the author off Jeffersons Nose and never produce another piece of literature. This book appeared to be put together in 2 weeks to make money, and not to benefit children in anyway! I read the reviews after purchasing and they all seem to be fake. It was more beneficial to have my child rip pages out of the book and make paper airplanes with them rather than read it.
Save yourself the money and wait for it to come out on clearance at your local dollar store, but dont wait too long as it will probably be sent to the dump shortly after.
