Product Description

This Hangiri is a well crafted wooden bowl, for cooling your sushi rice in! This wooden sushi bowl is held together with heavy copper bands and made of cypress or pine. It is also known as a "sushi oke" or "hangiri" and should be soaked in water or wetted before use..

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Durable for everyday use, February 6, 2010

This review is from: Hangiri Wooden Sushi rice Bowl
I own a sushi restaurant and purchased this product to use in my sushi bar. The bottom of the bowl warped and split and the sides of the bowl split within eight weeks. It may work for occasional use but I would not suggest this product for everyday use.

What can I say about a rice bowl. It's authentic and my mom loves it. She is Japanese.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good look, poor quality, May 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hangiri Wooden Sushi rice Bowl
The key word in this product description is "wooden". This hangiri is made of the light untreated pine wood. After a while the wood drys up and deforms. It means that the sides of the bowl get smaller, while the bottom deforms and no longer fits tightly. At the same time "copper" rings (i think they are actually made of plastic) keep their shape and size. That means they no longer fit the bowl and just hang over. I make sushi about twice per month. With that frequency hangiri looked perfect for 3 months, another 12 months and it disintegrated.

I've just purchased a replacement hangiri made of japanese cypress wood today. It's twice the price and I have high hopes it's of better quality.
