Editorial Reviews

As the grandson of Hank Williams and the son of Hank Jr., he was country music royalty before he ever sang a note. Known for his unique rebel-Country attitude, Hank 3 is releasing three records (one of which is a dbl disc Country record) this upcoming September, and the most highly anticipated of those is his upcoming Country record. The press buzz continues regarding Hank in publications like the L.A. Times, Rolling Stone and Salon.com.

Customer Reviews

My head won't stop hurting, and it is not hurting in a good way.
SLAYER
This is different than his heavy metal band Assjack because the songs are still heavy, but a lot slower and I love the way his vocals sound on this album.
S. O'Brien
Even though the majority of his music has already been previously established into certain genres, he adds a very unique & personal touch.

I didn't think that I would like this CD because it is metal and since I am in my 70s, metal is definitely a generational gap. But guess what? It was listenable and to a certain extent enjoyable? Why? Possibly because it is slow metal and also due to the fact it has a 50s rockabilly feel to it. It brought back memories of the early Elvis Sun recordings. At times it was frantic as in "That's All Right Mama" and at times it had a doomsday sound like that of "Heartbreak Hotel". Is it my favorite HanK III CD? No! But it is delightfully different.

I'm kind of surprised I'm giving this 5 stars because I like Hank 3 for his country more than his heavier stuff, but I did love his Assjack album and this one is very good as well. This is considered "doom rock" and is heavy and slow and Hank plays all instruments on the album as well as wrote every song. This is different than his heavy metal band Assjack because the songs are still heavy, but a lot slower and I love the way his vocals sound on this album. This is just one of those albums that really show how gifted and talented of a musician he is. I can easily listen to this from start to finish.

If you like Neurosis you will like this. This is like a metal lullaby. This is not country and this is not Assjack this is something else. Bottom line the slow heavy dark sound is just amazing. Call it doom rock if you want I call it a great release.

I've listened to the CD twice. The second time I listened to it on a different machine to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the first machine. This thing sounds like an old heavy metal cassette tape that spent too much time in a hot car. Lots of distortion. Very stange "music".

Not the best Hank has done.I liked HilbillyJoker, but this cd he slid of the deep end of the Hank/Assjack mesh.I think he should leave the two bands in their rightful places.

Hank III's punk and metal music isn't so bad as much as it's very brutal. His country music reflects that, making his country a genre that sticks close to its roots but also has much more swagger. You just can't fake that type of authenticity.

Attention Deficit Domination goes further to push forth the idea of no hope for redemption. It is very dark and drawn-out. Hank III's vocals warbly and whinin' vocals fit the material giving a quality of having a very bad trip. It is nightmarish and serves as an good example of doom metal.

If you like Hank III's Assjack material then you'll dig this album. While it is undermined by being associated with "3 Bar Ranch: Cattle Callin'" it does remain an album that is an acquired taste. If you are looking for dark and depraved music of doom then this'll serve that fix.

On September 6, 2011 Hank III released 4 albums, two of which are a double disc country release. While in my mind this release doesn't touch the country release it is definitely worth buying and, in my mind, the most impressive of his heavy works. It reminds me of a mix between Layne Staley, Corrosion of Conformity, with a bit of a hard sound that is unique to Hank. So you don't miss it I will stress that the Ghost to a Ghost/Guttertown is, to me, his best overall album (even better than Straight to Hell). I'd recommend buying that album and this but passing on the Cattle Core cd unless you are into really experimental music. Maybe someday I'll warm up to that one but the other 2 releases are so much better than the Cattle Core cd that I don't see myself picking that one up for a while.

I'm not much of a metal fan. Every once is a while I find something listenable but it's one of the few genres I have a hard time finding much to like. In fact when I skim through my collection the closest to metal I come to is Lords of the New Church and that was decades ago. But there is something about this CD I find fascinating and infectious. Maybe it is just because it sounds like Hank III no matter what the style. Whatever it is. if you like Hank III and Hendrix and music other than country then there is a chance you might like this. If you're looking for country, don't buy it. If you're looking for Hank III and willing to give some metal a try, then this is a good CD to give it a try.
