Jason Petty Does Hank Proud, September 22, 2004

Hank Williams: Lost Highway is a songbook musical biography of the usual type and one's love of the original performer's music will often dictate one's enjoyment of the CD (although the actual theatrical production can have thrills of its own). What separates this particular CD from many of its brothers and sisters is the quality of the musicians and, most outstandly, Jason Petty in the pivotal role of Hank Williams. It is an imitation of sorts as the role demands but it done with such skill, warmth, and acting chops as to be an unique listening experience in its own right. The CD perfectly captures the strengths of Hank Williams and that is a very good thing.

Varese Records presents this latest release "Hank Williams: Lost Highway (Original Cast Recording) [CAST RECORDING], featuring Jason Pett, Stephen G. Anthony, Michael W. Howell, Juliet Smith, Margaret Bowman, Myk Watford, Drew Perkins, Michael P. Moran, Tertia Lynch and Russ Wever ~ about one of the greatest composer/artists ever to grace the airwaves. Blending blues, folk, gospel and cowboy tunes into a short career that left a mark on the American scene as we know it today.
Entire album is a showcase of classic songs "YOUR CHEATIN' HEART", "JAMBALAYA (ON THE BAYOU)","MOVE IT ON OVER", "I SAW THE LIGHT" and "HEY GOOD LOOKIN'" leads the pack with some very talented individuals. Must make mention of Michael W. Howell who has what it takes to put a song over, you really notice when he's on a track ~ great harmony on the reprise of "I SAW THE LIGHT"...gotta love it!
