Tom Hanks lights up the screen in this hilarious collection of three of his most popular comedies: The Money Pit, The 'Burbs and Dragnet. Available together for the first time on DVD, this must-own collector's set features some of Hollywood's most well-known stars including Dan Aykroyd, Shelley Long and Carrie Fisher. See one of the world's most talented actors at his comedic peak in Tom Hanks: Comedy Favorites Collection. The Money Pit Walter and Anna (Tom Hanks and Shelly Long) make the leap into real estate, but encounter mayhem when their dream home starts falling apart before their eyes. The 'Burbs Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks) is just a normal guy living a normal life, or so he thinks, until he spends a week at home next to his new, and very strange, next-door neighbors. Dragnet Just the facts: Dan Aykroyd is Tom Hanks' unlikely partner as the two set out to solve a pattern of unusual robberies and, along the way, encounter an oddball assortment of obstructions to justice.

Since other reviewers had already discussed the movies on these DVD's in their reviews and most of us already knew these movies, I am not going to waste our time to go over them again. I would like to report the technical details of these two DVD's to help other people make their buying decisions.

    1) DISC ONE: Dual layer, The Money Pit, 91 minutes - Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 - English 2.0, Spanish 2.0, English DTS 5.1, French DD 5.1 - English subtitle & SDH.

    2) DISC TWO: Dual layer, The 'Burbs (106 mins) & Dragnet (102 mins). Both have the following specs: Anamorphic 1.85:1 - English 2.0, French 2.0 - English subtitle & SDH.

The special features are: The making of The Money Pit, The 'Burbs alternate ending and Theatrical Trailers for all 3 films.

FYI, I bought The 'Burbs on DVD a few years ago [*], which was on a single layer DVD. I can say that the copy of The 'Burbs on disc 2 is the same as that DVD. I didn't own The Money Pit & Dragnet on their own DVD's before buying this set so I can't talk for them. My friend who owned The Money Pit DVD told me Disc 1 was the same as what he had. I hope my report is helpful for other people.

[*] The product info of The 'Burbs DVD on Amazon says that it has an English DD 5.1 soundtrack. Actually, the English soundtrack on this disc is a DD 2.0 surround mix. If we run the movie through Dolby PL IIx or DTS Neo:6, the simulated 6.1/7.1 surround sound is very convincing.

This is a great DVD. 3 great movies on one DVD and one great price.

2 out of 3 of these are at the top of my favorites list, and no matter

how many times I've seen them I still enjoy them.

The Money Pit. Anyone who has bought an older home and discovered what

a fixer upper is or leads to, can really relate to this movie. They can

probably relate to everything except having the money to do such a fixup, and hopefully most people have not had relationships with someone as shallow and conceited as the meistro, the wife's former boyfriend.

Next comes The Burbs. What happens when you don't know how to take a

vacation anymore and all your friends also have lost that ability and do not know what to do with themselves!

The answer, Become your own Neighborhood Watch group.

Just hope that you don't have neighbors like the Klopaks.

Lastly Dragnet, where Tom teams up with Dan Aykroid as Joe Friday's son.

A great comic redo of a show that maybe was a little too serious, a

little tongue in cheek, and yet had everyone watching.

For a few good nights of something to give you a laugh and let you know

things could always be worse, pick up this DVD!

Dragnet was released in the summer of 1987.

I first saw this movie when a friend brought the movie over and I was doubled over in laughter from beginning to end.

The film was basically a send-up of the original dramatic series but with set in 1987 and non-stop comedy from beginning to end.

Dan Aykroyd plays Joe Friday's nephew Joe Friday to perfection and Tom Hanks was classic as his hip new partner Pep Streebek whom loved living dangerously.

Friday's stiff upper lip and insensitive persona and Streebek's free-spirited, care-free persona clash from smoking to how to operate high speed chases, food tastes and everything in between.

The two head PAGAN villians Emil Muzz(played by Jack O Halloran) and Reverend Jonathan Wurley(played with perfection by Christopher Plummer) are the funniest villians I have seen on film.

Key moments in this movie are when Friday and Streebek first take a trip to the zoo(Friday says the missing lion's mane will cause kids not to see a lion again and Streebek responds "Kids, it'll grow back" and kids respond with cheers), when they go to the Bait mansion(parodying Playboy), then when they meet Enid Borden, then when Friday and Streebeck chasing Emil Muzz(alot of humorous dialogue that ensues between Aykroyd and Hanks), go undercover to the PAGAN meeting, Friday's arresting of Wurley at The Brown Derby and then the ending battle with PAGAN.

I don't know why people pan this film, this is a classic and one of few movies I can watch start to finish without hitting skip scene or fast forward.

Recommended for those open to give film a chance and not for those who either are not fans or those who have a vendetta against me and counters my review for no reason!

Any fan of Dan Akroyd's or Tom Hank's style comedy will love it. Anyone that likes movies like "Beverly Hills Cop", "Police Academy", or "Naked Gun" should like it. Even fans of serious police movies or shows will probably get a kick out of it.

Joe Friday, played by Dan Akroyd, is serious about his work, even if his partner Pep Streebek, played by Tom Hanks, is not. Akroyd does a great job of emulating the original Dragnet Friday's inflections and no nonsense style. A cameo by Harry Morgan is fitting since he played in the original TV show.

The duo must uncover the leadership and plans of a satanic cult that is playing havoc with the city of Los Angeles. In their search they encounter a smut magazine king, a religious leader, the mayor, and a bevy of pin-up girls. Several sight gags and Akroyd's performance make this DVD worth owning.

Not much in the extras department. It would have been better if it included a making of feature and/or commentary by Dan Akroyd and Tom Hanks. I would have given it four stars then.
