Hankys galore!,

This is a great book for quilting and especially for a type of quilting that is not as popular as piecing and applique. I saw the author, Cindy Brick, on HGTV's Simply Quilts! with the ever sparkling Alex Anderson. Cindy showed how to make the cutest crazy hanky quilt so I just had to try it, even though I had recorded the show. I love to buy books on whatever hobby I have (knitting, crochetting, and quilting), and just good-old fiction. This is a great book. I'm sorry to say that I don't have any ancestors that had or saved handerchiefs, but had the thought to look on e-Bay! What do you know?!? There are pages and pages of handkerchiefs for sale of all types and all price ranges, mostly reasonable. This made this book invaluable to me. Hope that the previous reviewer sees this and therefore can get herself more handkerchiefs. There are plenty for all and Cindy Brick probably has some ideas on finding them also. But as she says on the show, "Just don't cut up the valuable historical ones." Great book and author.

I received this as a gift and would probably not have purchased it on my own (only because I don't have any hankies). The book had a lot of colored pictures and all of the quilts had themes which were based on what was embroidered on the hankies. It is a good book to have for some who has a lot of hankies and would like to turn them into wall hangings to remember beloved ones. Overall it is well written and makes a nice addition to my library.

Not a quilt,

I was disappointed in this book. These are not quilts, but wall hangings, so to me the title is misleading. I also thought the book was too theme oriented with regard to the quilted wall hangings. I inherited alot of handkerchiefs and wanted to make a large quilt.

Great ideas to use that hanky collection you inherited from your mom/grandma/aunt.... I would recommend that you find a collectors handkerchief book before you start sewing though. Some hankies are very collectible.

I loved this book. It gave me so many ideas of what to do with my Grandma's Hankies. I actually made three wall hanging quilts with her hankies for the ladies of my family. Thank you for such a great idea book. The pictures are awesome.

The magazine came in only a few days from ordering. What a treat to find little treasures tucked into the package. GREAT!

Too Cute,

If you have some spare hankys and you like to embellish with beads, lace and thread, this is a book for you. Each wallhanging requires 2-6 hankies and many of the author's designs include cutting the hankies. There are lots of color pictures and many embellishment ideas. The Hanky Panky method is well illustrated, but I'm not sure a beginner would be comfortable starting a project with the instruction provided in this book. Her advice on color and fabric selection are a bit skimpy. This book is good for this specific project; a hanky wallhanging. Not recommended if you're looking for a resource for a full size quilt or if you're attempting to create a wallhanging showcasing full/uncut hankies.
