one of the finest piano-jazz albums,

After hearing "time out" by Dave Brubeck at a sushi restaurant in Chicago, I spent four years searching for another album like that. One with mid-tempo piano-jazz tunes, played by a tight quartet or a trio, and a bold sound. Hank Jones' "Hanky Panky" and Haynes+Newborn's "We Three" were the two that got the closest. Enjoy!

Poorly mixed,

The playing is solid enough, but the piano is somehow mixed lower than the bass
and drums, and let's face it, you buy this for the piano. If you're on your first 1 or 2 Hank purchase, look through some of the others. My faves so far are the one with Donald Byrd and Steal Away with Haden. |
