The HI99121 was designed to specifically work for pH and temperature analysis of water and soil. The special HI1292D electrode is designed with a spherical tip to allow it to pentrate into soil . This is a popular meter for growers and landscapers. The electrode is made of glass so basic care is recommended. The pH range is -2.00 - 16.00 pH. Temperature range is Temp range is 23.0 - 220 0F

I bought this in the hopes of having a quick reliable way of measuring soil pH quickly without having to guess the color of pH strips. Sounds like a good deal, and certainly costs enough, but its just a bad product. First of all, it comes with very sketchy manuals. The one that comes with for the electrode especially is a joke. Its a general purpose manual that looks like it is trying to fit every electrode they make. none of the images show this electrode nor is any of the care information specific to the electrode. This is a refillable electrode, want to refill it? Sorry, you'll need to buy that solution separately once you go online to figure out what solution you need (the manual gives you a choice of 2, and you have to try and figure out which electrode you have). Want to store your electrode in the proper storage solution as recommended? Sorry you'll have to buy that solution separately as well, you don't even get a sample pack.

I maybe used it a few times and it seemed to work OK. Then I stored it a few months and the next time I tried it everything now reads 7.0. Try to calibrate it and it won't accept the pH 4.0 buffer. My guess is the electrode is broken. $139.00 to buy a new electrode. I didn't do anything other than stick it in the soft ground that I know of. I think I'll pass and chalk this one up as a mistake.
