Product Description

The HI 98127B home beer pH and temperature test kit is a portable, waterproof pH and temperature meter with a replaceable electrode and automatic temperature compensation (ATC) featuring a stability function that indicates when the meter is ready to take a reading. It features a hold function to freeze the screen while results are recorded. The kit includes two 20 oz.-packets of 4.01 and 7.01 buffer solutions, and food-grade cleaning solution, and a case. This meter is designed for use in the beer and beverage making process, but can be used to measure pH for other applications.

The HI 98127B tester measures temperatures between -5.0 to 60.0 degrees C/23.0 to 140.0 degrees F (+ or - 0.5 degrees C / + or - 1 degrees F), and has a range of -2.0 to 16.0 pH (+ or - 0.1) with a resolution of 0.1 pH. Calibration is automatic, at one or two points with two sets of memorized buffers (pH 4.01/7.01/10.01 or pH 4.01/6.86/9.18). The meter weighs 100 g/3.5 oz. and measures 163 x 40 x 26 mm/6.4 x 1.6 x 1.0 inches (HWD). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.)

pH meters and testers measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance and are commonly used by researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists in aquaculture, agricultural, wine-making and water-testing and for scientific applications.

Hanna Instruments manufactures analytical instrumentation and supplies, including pH meters, electrodes, chemical reagents, and buffer solutions. The company, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Woonsocket, RI, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 standards.

This device was working ok for about 1 month - I was using it to measure the mash PH in brewing beer. I bought the storage solution and the two different calibration solutions separate (adding an additional $40) in order to maintain it. After a month though, the device would read radically different numbers, and would not recognize the 4.0 PH calibration solution.

Thinking perhaps that the probe was damaged, I bought a new one but the result was the same - non-accurate PH readings, and it could not recognize the 4.0 PH solution. $170 dollars down the drain (this device + solutions + replacement probe).

I ordered this meter 8/15/11 for grape harvest and testing the wines however could never get it buffered in..wouldn't give accurate reading on 7.1 or 4.1 Then took off the battery cover to find all the batteries were covered in black goo and no good. Replaced the batteries and cleaned the battery compartment..It won't power on at all now. Not sure what to do with it.. Next time I'll order directly from the company for support and replacement.

Showed up with water inside the screen. Took batteries out and they were rusted together. Obviously a used product. Not happy. $100 down the drain and no time to wait for a new one. One bad ph could cost me big time

The instrument works well. I have been using it to test the pH of glycol in heting systems. Would have been 5 stars if it included storage solution.
