Best Bang for the Buck, October 19, 2009
This review is from: Hannspree HannsNote - Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz - RAM 1 GB - HDD 160 GB - GMA 950 802.11b/g/n (draft), Bluetooth 2.0 - Win XP Home - 10" Widescreen TFT 1024 x 600 ( WSVGA ) - camera - pearl black (Electronics)
My Amazon order shipped from TigerDirect ... and at a better price (including shipping) than I could wrangle from the TigerDirect Business to Business quote system. Product arrived in good shape, although the Netbook package could have been better wrapped (the wrapped Netbook box was loose inside a larger box). There is little in the way of manufacturers material to read for this Netbook. Just plug it in and turn it on. Bloatware (the garbage software that computer makers typically load on their products) was at a minimum. It took me less than an hour to remove the trial Norton System "@#$%#" (anti-virus, firewall, etc.), load AVG Free ([...]), and configure the internet and e-mail software to find my home wireless "n" network. The Netbook had no trouble picking up my network transmitted signal from over 75 feet away through walls and floors. Most of my hour set up time was trying to remember my network security key. The screen, while small by my 17 inch Toshiba laptop standard is bright and clear and easy to use. The touch pad was responsive and also easy to use with my big stubby fingers. The keyboard is responsive, but took a little time for me to get used to since the position of the keyboard does not provide any real wrist support typical of larger laptops.
Intended use: Portable computer for a High School student needing internet, e-mail, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software (added MS Office 2003 Pro from eBay ($46).
Pros: Physical size of the unit (small enough to fit in a backpack and on a school desk, but large enough to be useful), large keyboard size (able to handle key strokes by a 6 foot 3ich football player), XP operating system (need I say No to Vista once more), bluetooth connectivity (handy to use with a bluetooth mouse and for synchronization with my students bluetooth phone), wireless "n" connectivity (connects at home and school at 300MB/sec), LOW PRICE.
Cons: Lack of a CD ROM/DVD drive. Because of its size there is no room for a CD ROM/DVD drive, which you will need to upload your favorite software choices. Good CD ROM/DVD drives like the ASUS USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D1S-U can be picked up for less than $70 with shipping from Amazon.com. This of course increases the total package price, but the total price can still be significantly lower than purchasing a larger laptop (my other option). I did not go with a full size laptop as these units typically have screen sizes of 14 to 16 inches and, as a result, are significantly larger (too large for a high school student already lugging around a back pack weighing 40 to 60 pounds. I wanted portability, performance, and price.
Finally, my choice of this Netbook boiled down to low price and necessary features. This feature rich little Netbook was $80 less than its next nearest competitor with similar features and similar customer reviews (I considered the Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Blue Netbook, which has been discontinued for a newer and more expensive model), the cost of an external CD ROM/DVD drive. I also purchased a tote from case-Logic (less than $30) with substantially more padding than the Netbook sleeve provided by Hanspree, a Microsoft bluetooth mouse, the ASUS External Optical Drive (above), and extra memory by Crucial. This review does not include the memory upgrade as it has not yet arrived. I can only assume that the memory increase to 2 GIG can only increase the already speedy performance of this Netbook.

I bought 3 need I say more?, October 31, 2009
This review is from: Hannspree HannsNote - Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz - RAM 1 GB - HDD 160 GB - GMA 950 802.11b/g/n (draft), Bluetooth 2.0 - Win XP Home - 10" Widescreen TFT 1024 x 600 ( WSVGA ) - camera - pearl black (Electronics)
I bought one of these litte netbooks for it's portability. My larger notebook is a pain to carry running through airports. I liked that it had the 6 cell battery, bluetooth and wireless N. I liked it so much I bought 2 more as gifts. I used a thumb drive to add all of my software such as office etc. No problems.
The only thing I do not like is they have a "warranty void if tampered" sticker over one of the screws that has to be removed to open the case to add another gig of memory. Yes I put the memory in anyway.
The owners manual is on the desk top in a PDF file which I do not have a problem with. In addition, unlike many netbooks, this unit comes with a recovery disk and the HANNspree is set up to boot off of the USB if needed.
If you are not a hardcore gammer or graphics person, this netbook is for you.
