Miracles of Chanukah Continue,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hannukah Story (Latkes And Applesauce) (Paperback)
I sent a copy of "Latkes and Applesauce" to my grandchildren this Chanukah. It was the first time we weren't able to be together to light the candles and sing and dance together. "We really loved the story Grandma" was the message they left me on my cellphone. The wonderful story had connected us across the miles. Chanukah came early this year and it happened that I was a visiting teacher in an elementary school for the arts in Brooklyn on the 3rd day. The regular teacher had a basket of Chanukah books available, and "Latkes and Applesauce" was in the pile. I read the story to the children (of all cultures) and they loved it. It has a mama and a papa and a boy and a girl and a dog and a cat and winter and a tree and a miracle! Children love magic and their families and animals. They loved it! The story connected them to the spirit of the holiday and they enjoyed learning a song about seeing the candles glowing in the window even more after hearing the story. I drew a menorah on the "whiteboard" and each child took a turn to "light a candle" with a red dry-erase marker.
The book is dedicated to "my favorite latke eaters: Esther, Walter, Debbie and David." It so happens that this is a family I know and Esther is my dear friend. I had visited her recently and retold the story of the miraculous dog & cat who find the potatoes and apples in the frozen snowy winter on the last night of chanukah. My dear friend has been ill and this story delighted her and brought back many memories. She is a great and famous writer/storyteller herself and this was the perfect gift to send her through the mail so she could experience it again and again. All in all, "Latkes and Applesauce" was a constant visitor to my friends and family and students this winter and I am thankful that Amazon made it possible for me to extend the miracle.

This review is from: Hannukah Story (Latkes And Applesauce) (Paperback)
This is the story of Hanukah with the Menasche family, parents and two children. The family seems to have little material wealth and little food. When a snow storm hits during Hanukah they are faced with great difficulties. They carry on with strength throughout the ordeal and have a very special Hanukah. It is a sweet story, enjoyable for children and parents.
