This review is from: The Hanon Studies for Piano Book 1 (Sheet music)
I both love and hate this book -- which makes it rather difficult to write a review. I hate it becauee the exercises are SO difficult for any beginner. I love it because when one finishes this book, the piano world should be at one's feet!
These "Hanon" studies for the piano range from easy to very difficult. The level for each study is not given...but it's easy for anyone to see the difference between the first excercise -- with relatively few notes in them, to the last excercises...with so many notes, they begin to blacken the page. THIS is one of the infamous "scales" books -- learn it, and you learn at least 50 % of all piano studies and iingering... This is the "piano workout" book --yes, the notes do form into melodies, (of a sort)....but it is the fingering and the rhythm which take center-stage, here. Like time at the gym, practincing these scales takes effort and practice -- but the beautiful body (of music!), you'll be able to play afterwards, will make you happy you exerted yourself to practice all these sales!

This book is a supplement to the First Grade Book by John Thompson and I am finding it to be a great help.
