From Library Journal
Catalog of a major traveling centennial exhibition in Europe and the United States, this is a dense appreciation of Jean (Hans) Arp, the Alsatian artist who played an important role in Dada and Surrealism and later outside any established movement. Nearly a dozen essays by various authorities discuss aspects of Arp's sculpture, poetry, and two-dimensional works. The book is thorough, scholarly, heavily illustrated, and of lasting value far beyond the exhibition. It is highly recommended for scholars in 20th-century art. Unfortunately, it is visually one of the dullest, grayest books seen in a long time. Jack Perry Brown, Art Inst. of Chicago Lib.
