Review

Enjoy a classic study of Andersen which considers his life, writing achievements, and early influences on his work. This is an exceptionally literary biography which traces the storyteller's evolution: its appearance in paperback allows new readers access to his life's story. -- Midwest Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating biography, December 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hans Christian Andersen: The Story of His Life and Work 1805-75 (Paperback)
The biography of Hans Christian Andersen by Elias Bredsdorff is a fascinating journey into every relevant detail of the life of the great danish writer. A large part of the book consists of interpretations by Mr. Bredsdorff, but each of them is inteligently supported by what seems to be a thorough and respectful research into Andersen's own writings and those of his friends and critics. Delightful.

This review is from: Hans Christian Andersen: The Story of His Life and Work 1805-75 (Paperback)
I'm a big fan of Andersen's fairy tales, and his life makes an excellent subject for a biography--Andersen was a highly unusual man whose life was closely chronicled during his lifetime.
