About the Author

Hans Christian Andersen was born in 1805 in Odense, Denmark, the son of a poor shoemaker and a washerwoman. He became well known in his home town as a reciter of drama, and as a singer, and at the age of fourteen set off for Copenhagen, determined to become a national success on the stage. He failed, so returned to school - which he hated. However, in 1829 his first book for adults was published and he went on to write many more original stories written solely for children. Hans Andersen's tales began to be translated into English as early as 1846. Since then, numerous editions and more recently films and cartoons, have helped to ensure the continuing popularity of his stories. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

2.0 out of 5 stars Look Elsewhere... Careless Kindle Adaptation, March 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my Kindle and removed it within minutes. The table of contents does NOT link to the stories. The book title on my Kindle home page even has gibberish characters. This is a careless and sloppy adaptation. Stay away from this offering until at least someone fixes the issues mentioned. Even at $.99 this is overpriced.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good choice for 5-6 year olds, July 5, 2006
This review is from: Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales (Hardcover)
An impressive version of beloved fairy tales. Easy to comprehend for children, and beautifully illustrated.
The only regret is that some of the well known fairly tales are missing in this selection. Otherwise, I do recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Illustrated HCA, July 26, 2010

I love this book! This edition was given to my older siblings and handed down to me. I, of course lost it. I replaced it last year after spending at least 10 years trying to figure out who the correct illustrator was. The images are incredible!
