With movies and books constantly having regurgitated story lines and predictable characters, this one is a refreshing difference. For those who berate this movie because it has flagrant disregard to the original story, I remind you of what Disney has done (and continues to do) to classic stories, such as "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin." Those movies are great because they have modern experiences put in so that children of today can relate. "Hansel and Gretel" does the same thing. What results is a hilarious, visually-stimulating, modern retelling of a story we have all grown to memorize, with an all-star cast. The movie is very satirical, that is why sometimes it seems "overdone," but over-all it's a great movie for children of all ages (especially the parents). Laughs and chills abound with this fairytale!

Okay, I passed on this one for a while, until I got to see a few clips. All the actors are great and it has just the right touch of satire and unexpected twists to keep your interest.

Delta Burke is perfect. Taylor Momsen shines.

My favorite line of the whole movie--"I see fairytale people" ---delivered by Dakota Fanning--always a great actress in everything she's in.


Highly recommended for your DVD library.

This is a great satire on the traditional version of Hansel and Gretel! My grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed viewing this video together. He enjoyed the unique characters and I enjoyed the subtle humor of the dialogue. Delta Burke was the perfect evil step-mother and what a witch Vanessa Redgrave made! The closing line delivered by Delta Burke was priceless. All the actors did a fantastic job in making this version of Hansel and Gretel a movie to add to your collection.

i've enjoyed this movie since i was 8 years old; i am now 45. this movies brings back fond memories when my family would sit around the television on christmas day and watch this movie along with "the march of the wooden soldiers" and other memorable holiday movies. this movie is real comfort food for the body and spirit. it brings out the child in you at any age level. in this day of families not being close, this movie will bring families close together.

I really enjoyed this movie, while Howey has changed much from his older comedy routines he is still funny and the rest of the actors add some spice to this satire of an old time classic for the whole family - and that Wood Fairy, WOWZERS!
If you like this one too then you might also be interested in Howey Mandel's "Walk Like A Man", another old time favorite of mine (when Howey had hair!)

We rented this movie for our four year old son. He loved it and watched it over and over (for the five days we had it)! I thought it was a very cute movie, and think it is a good one to own.

My 3 year old son has always liked the Hansel & Gretel story and when he saw this movie advertised on TV he had to have. Although the movie is much different from the story it is alot of fun. It has monsters and an evil stepmom. Since we got the movie it has been watched over and over. I would be very suprised if this movie does not become a big seller by word of mouth.

I rented this movie for a 3yr old and a 6yr old, expecting an updated retelling of the Grimm Fairytale. It was a whole lot better. The movie had some new characters and fun twists! The movie visually entertained my 3yr old, and my 6yr old loved the story and I loved the fun quirks and joke references. In a world where precious little is simply plain fun entertainment - this movie rocks! We will be purchasing this DVD and probably giving a few as gifts!

I always loved the Grimm's Fairy tales, and hoped to find a movie with a little old world charm. This is not what I was looking for at all. Without going into detail, I am maybe halfway through the film and there have already been some very disgusting segments. I would not show this to anyone... It is degrading to watch, in my opinion.

I bought this movie on a whim .I like Dakota Fanning a lot.She's always been such a little sweetie-pie.Although it's a silly fairy-tale, I actually like that sort of stuff from time to time. It helps me to unwind after a bout with the evening news.Dakota [or Duck Odor,as I sometimes call her] is an excellent artist that I admire quite a lot.Good Luck with your life, Miss Fanning.
