R.I.P. Cornsilk Classic Translucent Powder! But there's hope...,
By Elfgiva (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sally Hansen, The Original Cornsilk, Classic Translucent Loose Powder #30-02 No Color (Health and Beauty)
I cannot understand why Sally Hansen is not paying more attention to the LEGIONS of womenfolk scouring the earth to find this precious stuff, now that it's basically going the way of the dodo. Do they not understand we'd KEEP BUYING IT?? I feel like I'm delivering a eulogy, here!
I discovered Cornsilk in the early 80's and have been a fanatically loyal fan, ever since. I am not loyal to brands: a product must earn it. Like most women, we demand performance! At that time, it was the only face powder I could find -- anywhere -- which did not list "talc" as the first ingredient; instead, it listed first, ground walnut powder, I believe. THAT was key to its success: a powder which does not cake or get maskey, controls oily skin for hours, gives a lovely, not too matte, but "just right" finish, and can be reapplied again and again, without ever turning your face orange. All this, plus no perfumey smell. And let us not forget: The PRICE! Since then, many a contender has come and gone. Expensive powders from pricey dept. stores languished on the shelf - sampled in earnest and ultimately vanquished by the humble yet mighty CORNSILK. Even with the changes this product underwent in packaging and formulation, we remained devoted. So what are we to do, now? Order if for twice the price on EBAY if we can even find it? Yeah, we could and some of us will. But if they've stopped making it and we're simply hoarding what will ultimately be gone anyway, another option (and the one I've chosen), is to start looking for a replacement! And I'm pleased to say, I've found a contender. (Fingers crossed, I haven't used it for more than a few days): NYC face powder. As in, "New York Color." Bought it for - - get this: $2.99 at Rite Aid. It's good stuff and yes, it seems to have similar if not exact performance to our beloved CS. Feels and looks good, reapplication doesn't cake, it blots oil, isn't drying, no smell, and the color and texture of my skin doesn't change. One more bonus: remember when they changed the Cornsilk box inside to a hard plastic interior you couldn't pull off as easily as the old one, to get the remaining precious powder out? NYC doesn't have that problem. (Minor quibble: NYC's little sponge applicator is ever so quaint. Toss it and use a decent brush!) I would write a review on NYC, but can't find it on Amazon, right now. But HEY! I can buy it down the street for under 3 lousy bucks! Can't find Cornsilk anymore like the rest of us? Don't get mad, get even! RIP Cornsilk. If you come back, I will be waiting for you. Maybe. Meantime, I just had to move on!

I have loved Cornsilk for I don't know how long. It's the best and most gentle makeup powder out there. It's a shame that more stores don't carry it . . . I buy tons of it when I see it so that I don't ever run out.

I CAN'T FIND THIS IN STORES ANYMORE AND I THINK IT'S A REAL SHAME. THIS IS SO GENTLE ON THE SKIN AND BLENDS SO WELL WITH ANY MAKEUP.
I HAVE BEEN USING THIS SINCE 1966..AND NO, I'M NOT OLD, I'M VINTAGE.. AND I HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING THAT WORKS AS WELL AS THIS PRODUCT. I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I FOUND THIS ON AMAZON. I HOPE THEY CONTINUE TO OFFER CORNSILK. IF YOU HAVE NEVER TRIED IT, TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT. PEOPLE THINK I'M AT LEAST 15 YEARS YOUNGER THAN I AM AND PART OF THAT IS THE MAKEUP. I USE THIS WITH MAX FACTOR PANSTICK AND IT REALLY DOES COVER BLEMISHES WELL. I HOPE THIS ISN'T DISCONTINUED. THE ONLY THING I HAVE FOUND THAT COMES CLOSE TO THIS IS NEUTROGINA LOOSE POWDER..STILL NOT AS GOOD AS CORNSILK.

I have been using Corn Silk powder since I was a teen-ager of 15 or so(and I am now 47). I have had extremely oily skin since I was a teen-ager, and Corn Silk loose powder is the ONLY powder I can use that sets my make-up and lessens the oiliness and does not turn a horrible orange color on my skin! Recently it has become next to impossible to find Corn Silk loose powder at any retail store in my vicinity, and I had resorted to using another brand that made my make-up look "cakey." I was getting desperate then I decided to click on "Corn Silk" on Amazon, and, lo & behold, there was my Corn Silk! I was very happy! I know I am paying almost double the price in stores(due to shipping & handling), but it is worth it to me to have my Corn Silk powder which really improves the look of my still oily complexion!

I have used CornSilk powder since my teenage years, and I'm in my late 50s now. I love it because it absorbs that "shine" but does not layer on a heavy powdery finish. I also love the fact that it is colorless. My favorite is the compact, but it has been discontinued. Sally Hansen sold the CornSilk line to Coty, and I fear they are discontinuing the entire line. What a shame. This is a great product for women of all ages. It is a sensible, efficient, no-nonsense powder that leaves you looking natural and shineless. What a shame that, after so many years, it is being discontinued. I, and many others, will miss it.

awsome texture. its stay like baby skin texture, this powder give a refreshing complex and soften look, its control the shine, but not even a lot like the compact cornsilk matte. but its the better translucent powder i have ever used.

I was so happy to find this product on Amazon. I have looked everywhere for this powder and could not find it. Non of the major department stores have it in stock anymore. My skin tends to be very oily in my T-zone. I can apply this powder in the morning and go, no need to worry about touch ups. I had to pay triple the price but it is worth every cent.

Love cornsilk powder,
This review is from: Sally Hansen, The Original Cornsilk, Classic Translucent Loose Powder #30-02 No Color (Health and Beauty)
It's the best powder on the market. It really is colorless, so it matches my skin tone in the winter or in the summer when I am more tan. It is also light, smells nice, and keeps the shine down better than anything else I've tried.

The BEST powder ever!,
This review is from: Sally Hansen, The Original Cornsilk, Classic Translucent Loose Powder #30-02 No Color (Health and Beauty)
Thank goodness for the internet!! I just purchased 4 and plan on treating them like they are a precious gem. I will plan on stocking up on more when and if I can put it into the budget. I have tried other powders when I couldn't find it in the store anymore and they were just a big waste of money. NOTHING will ever come close to this perfection in a box and I am so sad that it seems to be headed towards extinction. I have used this powder since I was in highschool and I am now 40. This is the only powder that doesn't contribute to giving away my age! I will miss you CornSilk. :-(

Cornsilk is truly the best loose powder. But, since I can no longer find it anywhere, I've had to search for a reasonable alternative. The brand Jane (jane. 01 colorless) comes pretty darn close. Doesn't cost a lot, and is available at Rite Aid. However, talc is the first ingredient. I'm more concerned that, as always seems to happen, now that I've decided I like it, it'll be discontinued immediately......
